Hasn't it been proven by now that the Olympics do more harm than good to a city?

1984 was one of the only Olympics that was profitable. Not sure if that can be emulated in this day and age since the spectacle of the event has increased by several orders of magnitude.

Unless they are going to re-use existing facilities that we already have, I want this thing as far away from LA as possible. The 1984 model worked because of this.....if they are going to try to bid for the Olympics using the failed current model, I don't want LA or any US city getting anywhere near the games.

I want it here. I think it would only be London and LA to have it three times.

I wonder what L.A. traffic will look like in 10 years.

Will we have flying cars yet?

I live in the S.F. Valley, and the traffic has gotten SO BAD in just the past 5 or so years.

As expected LA did not get the bid. Boston won the US bid.

I've never understood the 2 weeks thing. Why wouldn't the Olympics be as long as the World Cup? I'm a huge fan of the Olympics, and just when you get really into it, it's over. It should be a month long.

Not to mention they basically pack all these sports into a 2 week period so theres an overload of sports so you never really get to fully enjoy all the competitions.

The Olympics aren't that great. They show the same sports over and over again. There is way too much gymnastics and swimming for me. If I don't care about those sports at all, then why should I suddenly be interested for two weeks? The only sport I care about is basketball.

Edit: I do think some of the other sports would interest me more but they just keep showing the same stuff over and over again.

Let's just put it this way. Would you rather watch the NFL playoffs this weekend, or watch a week of women's gymnastics involving teenage girls that you've never seen before?

Well thats what they put on the main NBC channel, which are basically abbreviated highlights. I'm sure if you really wanted to you can watch the entire basketball competition, but its only on the basketball channel they setup for the Olympics.

I hate losing to Boston in anything.

Besides, Boston has to be the most confusing city to drive in and out of. It'll be great for people from around the world to be driving in circles for hours.
