Good pickup. Nice big man backup on a cheap contract this year and a cheap option for next. Lunch pail blue collar guy. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Agreed!
We needed some young talent; I believe this is a positive step forward. |

Tarik Black tells me he's 6-foot-9 - not the 6-foot-11 as listed by NBA

Quote: | His game is simple. He’s strong. He boxes out. He rotates on defense. His game is within 5′ of the hoop. He doesn’t try to play outside of the context of his natural talent.
He hustles. He knows exactly what to provide for the team in the absence of a starting center. This makes him an excellent role player.

Sacre hopefully
I want the rotation to look like this
Ronnie Price
Kobe Bryant
Wesley Johnson
Ed Davis
Jordan Hill
Bench:
Jeremy Lin / Jordan Clarkson
Nick Young
Wayne Ellington
Carlos Boozer / Ryan Kelly
Tarik Black
Those should be our 12 active players
The 3 inactives
Steve Nash(due to injury)
Julius Randle(due to injury)
Robert Sacre(due to Sacre)

He has an 8'11 standing reach. That's why he gets blocks and rebounds, in addition to his athleticism.

Draftexpress.com has him listed as 6’7.5″ w/o shoes, with a 7’2.75″ wingspan and a standing reach of 8’11”.

No big deal, he would fit in our team's lack of size. |

I really like Black's attitude, hustle and physical style of play ( something that's missing from this team).
He's a real banger! |

Well, even though he's undersized, I hope he can take on true centers like Ben Wallace can. |

He and Sacre make a nice backup center rotation for under $1.5 mil. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Never a good sign when Mitch Kupchak is taller than our Center. He's 6'9''. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Well we've got a team full of decent bench players and 11th-15th men, now we just need a starting PG, SF, and C... _________________ You are either in or on your way to the NBA Finals. |

I was already a fan of this guy. Pretty much from that first game against the Lakers and a few other games I saw him in. Was pumped that we picked him up and actually said the Lakers should when he was released. But, after seeing that video, Black is really an intelligent, realistic, articulate and humble, humble dude. I really hope he thrives here in LA.
People may laugh, but I'm going to compare him with some other workhorse type players in the league, who have certainly proved their worth on teams, in Reggie Evans and DeJaun Blair. He has similar size to both - albeit undersized for his/their positions - has bulk, hustles, plays hard, can defend and like the other two, I would say his best tangible skill/asset is his rebounding. Black just seems like one of those gritty, glue guys that every team needs. I can't think of a player like him that the Lakers have had in recent years - apart from maybe Jordan Hill, although Jordan is being used/showcased as more of a scorer right now.
I'd like to go for the Ben Wallace comparison, but won't go that far out on a limb just yet _________________ "We might have had the worst season ever or could have the worst season ever for a Lakers team, but now let's have the greatest comeback that the league has ever seen." - Kobe Bryant |

Seems like a nice young man with a good head on his shoulders. Looking forward to seeing what he can do for the Lakers. _________________ “There is always light if only we're brave enough to see it, if only we're brave enough to be it.” --Amanda Gorman |

I like that the Lakers seem to highly value offensive rebounding. Its a team skill that can win you games kinda easily. I dont know how much the analytic experts value that skill but it seems very important to me when watching nba games |
