Bonds trails Aaron by 35 after hitting homer No. 720

LOS ANGELES -- Barry Bonds hit his 720th homer Friday night, a three-run shot to right-center in the third inning of the San Francisco Giants' game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Bonds, who trails career leader Hank Aaron by 35 home runs, hadn't hit one since June 24 against Oakland -- going 25 at-bats between long balls. This one came on an 0-1 pitch from rookie right-hander Chad Billingsley, who became the 426th pitcher to give up a homer to Bonds.

His homer gave San Francisco a 5-4 lead.

The seven-time MVP and 13-time All-Star, who turns 42 on July 24, has hit 63 home runs against the Dodgers and 28 of them in Los Angeles.

Bonds was limited to 14 games and 51 plate appearances last season because of three knee operations.
