Probably not on a contender unless he improves dramatically over the next few seasons. But he has a definite future in the league if he continues his progression.

I believe he may be able to make it as a starting C in this league, albeit a little undersized. However, his bulk and athleticism makes up a lot of the height disadvantage he may have against 7-footers

If not, he should be an excellent hustle, energy, rebounding big man off the bench

it's possible, but also unlikely. only guy i can think of is ben wallace.. he was listed as 6'9 but i wouldn't be surprised if he were closer to 6'8.

Tarik averaged 7/6 and shot 55% in just 20 minutes per game while he was the starting C for Houston, and he had an average +/- of 8.1 in that time.

Now with us, in January, he is scoring at a much higher fg (67%) and doing it at a faster rate. (from 10 to 15ppg per 36).

Basically, every time he plays, he gets better.

We should start him immediately and see how he does with 30 minutes per game. He might need to be our starting C next year depending on who's available in the draft and free agency, so we should get a look at him right now, especially given how cheap his team option is for next year.

Kind of had/have Ben Wallace in mind. Not saying he will ever be as good necessarily, but similar size and road travelled to the NBA. Mind you, Black already looks like he could have more of an offensive game than Big Ben

Black reminds me more of someone like Dale Davis (less length).

Ben Wallace was an athletic beast; TBlack isn't near him.

I have to hope that they are trying to showcase Sacre for a trade and keeping Tarik under wraps.

I guess Byron is gonna keep this lineup and give Sacre a chance until the next 15-20 games.

But.... what exactly are they trying to showcase? everyone knows who Sacre is.... why does he keep closing out games... even though he's a liability..... I think most pro-tankers would say... it's to get a top-5 pick.... but seems like Scott is just trying to toy with line-ups... even at the cost of losing the games at the end...... a very strange season indeed.

Black is just as athletic as Ben Wallace so his upside is considerable. He just needs time on the floor like most rookies do...

Black is no where near Ben Wallace athletic ability in his prime.

Black is good but very limited at what he brings to the table. He is definitely not as athletic as Ben Wallace

I disagree. I don't think what he brings to the table is limited at all.

Either way I would assume and hope both Black and Sacre will be back next year. Both of them combined make like 1.6m. Tarik still has a lot of potential and Sacre still have value as a backup C, especially at that price.

Trade Jordan Hill and give them both Tarik 28mpg as a starter and Sacre 20mpg as the backup.

I don't mean his overall game as compared to Wallace. He has shown a decent offensive game but if he is going to play some at the 4 he needs to develop a his outside shot to stretch the floor. If he is just going to play center then he's okay except for his height will always be an issue against legit 7 footers. That being said he has plenty of time to improve because he's just a rookie.

With J. Hill out does Tarik Black or Ed Davis get the nod to start at center against the Bucks?

I would like to see TB get some extended playing time like he did in Houston when Howard got injured.

Sacre's the starting center, and Black got the call at PF to start the second half.

For 17 whole minutes.

If you start, you're the starter. Sacre started the game, and Black still got more minutes than him in the second half. Byron is pretty predictable with his lineup replacements.

I can see that maybe we are actually stashing Tarik until the trade deadline has passed. I would assume we would like to trade Hill before anyone else, and Sacre second, so they are getting the starting nods.

Yep, it's Black:
@Lakers: Tarik Black will start tomorrow against Milwaukee in place of the injured Jordan Hill.

Predictable.
