I think Jones will eventually go down as the greatest ever. He's taken a fair few of his recent fights, and beaten them at their own game, which is crazy.
I think Johnson will have trouble with the range of Jones. I know you could have said he'd struggle with the range of Gustafsson, but Gus doesn't use that range the same way Jones can, then his strikes are so varied when people do try to close on him. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.
That fight is why I think Mike Tyson in his prime rules MMA.
unless Tyson had elite takedown defense i think he would lose a vast majority of fights.
I was just going to post that.
If Tyson in his prime decided to train for the MMA and fight the #1 heavy weight in a year, no way would I put $ against him.
Yeah, I agree that he would need takedown D, but a year sounds about right and then he'd be unstoppable. Yet, I think prime Ali gets killed in MMA but beats Tyson easily in boxing _________________ “It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth as though I had a right to be here.”

Tyson would just need to copy Liddell's blueprint and he would be unbeatable.

I wish DQ's were no contests. I hate that Jones has a 1 in the loss column when he doesnt have a legit lose. His reign would look better if he could fight with the undefeated tag. Makes the fights more interesting when you can see if that one guy will ruin the 0.
Rumble is a beast. It's too bad about the early stoppage in the Hendo fight - the referee didn't stop the fight early enough, and Gus took way too much unnecessary damage.

He had one of the best sprawls in the game.
Keeps a wrestler from shooting in and taking you down. He'd sprawl and back away. Kept it standing and eventually would knock you out when with a counter.
By the way, what the (bleep) is with these fighters that the UFC holds on to for way too f'ing long: BJ Penn, Dan Henderson, Brendan Schaub, etc. Everyone can see that they're done, but the UFC just keeps giving them fights. I guess it's probably contract related.

Because they slave themselves to the Vinny Mac wannabe. What's worse is that dip (bleep) Rogan and play by play guy calling every fighter and every UFC event the greatest thing that ever lived in the history of life. Calling Tito Ortiz a legend, the bastard has a 30-18 record. How the hell are you a legend when you have gotten your ass kicked 1/3 of your pro fights?

Got it. I was working on those last week. _________________ “It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth as though I had a right to be here.”

Ortiz is absolutely a legend in the history of the UFC. He won the light heavyweight title, defended it 5 times, and actually has ended up with the most UFC fights in their history (27), and a lot of his losses have come on the back end of his career.
Say what you will about him, personally not one of my favorites, but he was absolutely one of the biggest stars the UFC ever had.
And just to clarify, he doesn't have a 30-18 record, he has 30 pro fights and his record is 18-11-1.
On the original post, I think guys like BJ Penn & Dan Henderson are popular fighters who draw a crowd, that's why they have been allowed to fight. Both are tough as hell, and both are absolutely MMA legends, so in my eyes they've earned the right to go out on their own terms. 2 of my all-time favorites, in fact I'd probably call BJ Penn my favorite ever fighter.
Not sure why Brendan Schaub still has a job though, he kinda sucks _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.
