The game thread is unreadable. I understand why some people want the team to tank; I just don't understand why those people would bother watching the game. The real fans at the game were definitely cheering for the Lakers to win. |
I completely disagree with you. The MAIN objective for this team at this point is to protect the draft pick at all costs and try to get as high a draft pick as possible.
Third objective develop any player that is in the future plans, which is mostly Clarkson.
To sabotage your own best interests in the name of rivalry is absolute madness. In the tanking wars, getting your fellow tank teams to get wins is extremely difficult. To give a game away like this is simply inexcusable.
A true rivalry is to best your rival. The terms of the rivalry may change. If this foolish victory comes back to haunt us and costs us a draft pick, Boston will laugh as we continue to languish. No ONE will care about this meaningless, self destructive victory.
At this point, every true Laker fan I know, even the most resilient to tanking have come aboard to understand that WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TANK! This is because it is such a no brainer at this point that not even the most emotional of fans can justify anything but tanking!
We are in dire straits, and we must put our own best interest first! It does not matter who we face. Our overall record against the Celtics, while important, pales in comparison to the overall future of the organization.
We just did damage to ourselves, and we are compounding by looking stupid by jumping up and down and saying "Yay. We beat a pretty bad Celtics team! Whoopeee!!" |

You make absolutely no sense to me. Tanking (losing a game on purpose) is mainly a "fan" concept. Whether we root for the Lakers to win or if we root for them to lose has no bearing on the game. Why are you bothered with someone happy that the Lakers beat the Celtics???
The players are NOT playing to lose. The coach is NOT coaching to lose. I'm sure (in consultation with the FO) the coaching staff is evaluating all the players with next season in mind. So there will be DNP-CD's and varied minutes amongst the players from game to game. But for the players on the court playing the game, and for the coaching staff calling out instructions during the game, they are trying to win. They are all paid to win, period. |

Wes playing the 4 to stretch the floor opened it up for Lin or anyone else to drive the lane and have a choice to either finish it, dump it off to a big, or even kick it out to a shooter. thought this was obvious. gotta use the player's strengths. even if BS don't like pnr, he can at least allow Lin some space to drive. |
byron is able to roll out this lineup because boston didn't have any bigs that could hurt us. if we play this lineup against teams with decent bigs, we'd get killed. |
Maybe. But we'd get killed anyways.
Right now, with our lack of a real Center, we're going to be weak defensively.
The problem with completely focusing on defense is that means the other team dictates the game. We are trying to stop them without the personnel to do it.
I think for wins, our only real practical route is to make them adjust to us.
I do realize that wins aren't a priority right now over player development, but that doesn't mean that we teach players to lose. We should put our rooks in a position where they can try to win. |
couldn't have said it better myself. in fact, BS said something to the effect that you should play 'to win'. not 'not to lose' |

Knew he was gonna be a bust in the NBA, with his ugly shooting mechanics and average first step. I could still see him finding a niche as a defensive specialist, but offensively I can't see him being a #1, 2, or 3 option. | To me , he's Lindsey Hunter II. I don't know why people kept predicting he'd be scoring at least 15 ppg. It says everything that they traded for Isaiah Thomas while they have Avery Bradley. I'll still take JRandle over Smart any day. |

Finally finished watching this game. The bad decision not to foul while up 3 was one thing. But did you see Boozer playing for the drive and going for the rebound on that possession? What the heck was he thinking?
Anyway, I was impressed with Lin taking it to some strong defenders and making the right passing decisions, and Wes actually playing a very smart game on offense, both on and off the ball.
Getting the Celtics' PGs out of the game was huge, which let them stick to the Boozer at C, Wes at PF lineup without giving up a lot of buckets inside off of drives and rolls. |

On the offensive end, he needs to become Andre Miller. Don't know if he has it in him, but he still has plenty of time, being only 20. |

I noted how soft that D was and was a little irked (since Scott was playing to win) that we didn't make a defensive sub to begin with. It's hard to pull apart the tank from the non-tank decisions to give a fair critique, but that seemed like a head scratcher.

Yes and I think it's noteworthy that Lin did it both in Scott's more traditional lineup/role in the first half and in a more Lin-friendly floor spaced lineup in the close. |

Also noteworthy that neither lineup included Hill. |
