Look on the bright side, the books written by sports historians in 2035 about this era of the Lakers will be HILARIOUS. We'll be that team in documentaries with backwards ways, fighting against the avant garde for no apparent reason other than tradition. |

Mason and Ireland were talking about this today. Saying our team could desperately use McKechnie and his techniques as a preventative measure for many of these guys' injuries.
Ireland tried to defend Grass Fed and Vitti but even he sounded wistful when Mason started listing all of the special measures McKechnie uses to keep guys healthy. |

Not all trainers are created equal, not all Doctors are created equal, there are differences even when the degrees they posses say the same thing. Current Lakers management and even some LG'ers can mock differences in training staffs, but the reality is there are differences how athletes respond to how they are trained. If a training staffs record say's they are doing a good job and you are in need of a good training staff to help protect your multi million dollar investment, are you going to hire someone that does not have the " it factor intangibles" ? _________________ .....

Glad someone revived this thread. Sick of hearing about all these injuries and the many who chalk it up to "bad luck". How many season-ending injuries need to occur before the team does something about this (bleep)? _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same." |

I dunno man. We aren't exactly on the bleeding edge of anything; Jesse Buss has the same amount of say as Ryan West in our scouting operation and we're wayyyy behind in the analytics department.
Sometimes past success begets laziness/ backwards thinking. |

Well, given all the random end of season mania threads flying around right now about trading Clarkson or Randle or the top 5 pick or Swaggy P or any random thought that pops into your head...what would you trade for McKechnie? |

Margaret Cho. She only appears to be useful in massaging the players sore calves after or before games. Not exactly the futuristic / advanced physical therapy you'd expect from a multi-million dollar franchise. _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same." |

All of Tim DiFrancesco's cows. Throw in Sacre and Vitti for free. |

It got to a point this year, we were so injured we couldn't tank right.
D-leaguer after D-leaguer got playing time this year. It wasn't because the 12 man roster we came into this year sucked (although it kinda did). It was because they were hurt.
Honestly, if Snake doesn't go down we could've had the 2nd or 3rd worst record....easily. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

I believe y'all are in the "Bargaining" stage of grief at this point.. by grasping at this concept that a single employee would've saved this entire franchise. |

I don't think McKechnie would've solved all our injury problems.
I do think whatever we've been doing for injury prevention these last couple years hasn't had good results. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

But it's been 3 years now since McKechnie was let go and the Lakers' injuries have gotten worse every year.

Quote: | Phil Jackson: "If (Lakers) still had Alex McKechnie, maybe these injuries wouldn't have happened."
Apparently, Jackson—who recently joined Twitter—was listening to John Ireland's radio show with Steve Mason on L.A.'s KSPN. Ireland, who also works as the Lakers' radio play-by-play announcer, referred to the integral role McKechnie played for the team over 15 years ago, prompting a tweet from the former Lakers coach.
INDEED
The Zen Master spoke (that is, tweeted) to the importance of conditioning, rehab and the basic necessity of keeping players on the court.
Before the 2011-2012 season, the Lakers front office chose not to renew McKechnie's contract as their athletic performance coordinator. The Toronto Raptors swooped in to hire him as their "Director of Sports Science" (per Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times).
With Kobe's aging legs having finally betrayed him, Steve Nash hampered by a balky hamstring, Pau Gasol slowed by plantar fasciitis and Dwight Howard managing an injured labrum all season, it seem like the Lakers could really use someone like McKechnie right about now.
Among others let go that season were Assistant GM Ronnie Lester, International Scout Adam Fillippi, and equipment manager Rudy Garcidueñas who spent 30 years with the Lakers. |

Exactly. And if you read the reports on Lakers.com by Mike Trudell, you see that Grass Fed and Vitti have been working outside of their comfort zones to try and provide the same services McKechnie did. |

I would dump grass fed IN A HEARTBEAT to have McKechnie back. Or at least someone on his level.
DiFransesco seems like he bought in to some new age healing crap and sold the franchise on it |

This should be mentioned in the 'Why blame Jim Buss' thread. |
