Knicks finish summer league play with a win over Wizards

The New York Knicks built up a 13-point first half lead and held on for a 75-67 victory over the Washington Wizards in the Toshiba Vegas Summer League. New York's advantage was greatly helped by outshooting Washington 60 percent (15-25 FG) to 31 percent (11-36 FG) through the first two quarters of play.
The game was separated by only two points after the first 10 minutes of play, but the Knicks' offense doubled up Washington 22-11 in the second quarter for a 41-28 cushion. New York added two more points to its lead after the third, but watched Washington break the 20-point mark for the only time in the fourth quarter.
New York was led offensively by Ime Udoke's 13 points (4-9 fG). Udoke was closely followed by 12 scored by David Lee and Brian Greene's 11.
Washington's Oleksiy Pecherov led all scorers with a 22-point (9-14 FG) outburst. Andray Blatche chipped in with 18 (6-10 FG, 5-6 FT), while Donell Taylor had 10.
For the game, the Knicks nailed 52.6% (30-57 FG) of their shots, while the Wizards connected only 38.2% (26-68 FG) of the time.
The Knicks finish summer league play with a 4-1 record. Lee averaged a team-high 15.2 points per game in the five-game span, while Channing Frye had 12.5 points per game (two games) and Nate Robinson averaged 12.2 points per game (five games).
The Wizards ended its play with a 0-5 record. Blatche poured in a team-high 16.0 points per game in the span, while Pecherov averaged 12.6 points per game.

The Minnesota Timberwolves outscored the Dallas Mavericks 13-2 over the final 3:15 of play to win its Toshiba Vegas Summer League game 86-76 Thursday afternoon. The Timberwolves turn around can be attributed to the nine-points scored by Randy Foye down from the stretch. Foye scored a game-high 28 points (10-18 FG, 7-9 FT).
Dallas trailed by eight after the first quarter, but reeled off 52 points in the second and third quarters combined to take a 12-point cushion into the fourth. The Timberwolves chipped away at the deficit and took the lead on a three pointer by Foye at 3:15. The three put Minnesota up by two, 76-74. It was a lead they would never relinquish.
Following Foye's 28-point effort was Bracey Wright's 20 (5-11 FG, 9-11 FT) for the Wolves. Paul Shirley chipped in 14 and was followed by 12 by Tyrone Ellis.
Dallas' Rawle Marshall scored 27 (6-11 FG, 14-16 FT) for Dallas in a losing effort. Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Pavel Podkolzin hit the double-digit mark with by scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively.
For the game, Minnesota outshot Dallas 50% (27-54 FG) to 40.0% (22-55 FG). In the third quarter, Dallas' 30-point burst was helped by the offense making 73.3% (11-15 FG) of its shots.
Minnesota takes on the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets on Friday at 5 p.m., in the Cox Pavilion.
With the loss, Dallas completed its five-game run in the summer league. Marshall finished the league with a 16.4 ppg average in five games, while rookie Maurice Ager averaged 20 ppg in just two games (sat out last three games due to hand injury).

The Los Angeles Clippers exploded out of the gates in the first quarter, leading 26-10 after one quarter over the Detroit Pistons en route to an 89-73 win.
Six Clippers scored in double figures led by Daniel Ewings 16 points (5-12 FG), while Terrell Lyday had 14 points (5-7 FG). James Singleton pitched in 12 points (2-11 FG, 8-9 FT), mostly by slashing to the basket and drawing fouls, and 11 rebounds. Yaroslav Korolev (3-13 FG) and Jawad Williams (4-4 FG) had 11 points a piece, while Boniface Ndong collected a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Amir Johnson showed the ability to bang inside, yet slash to the basket on offense as he collected a team-high 15 points (6-10 FG) and nine rebounds. Jason Maxiell had 13 points (5-10 FG), including one monster drive and dunk, and five rebounds.
The Clippers shot 44 percent (29-66 FG) for the game, while the Pistons shot 41 percent (26-64 FG). The Clippers held a nine rebound advantage (45-36), but were outscored by 21 on three-pointers.
The Clippers take on the Phoenix Suns tomorrow at 7 p.m., while the Pistons battle the Boston Celtics tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Warriors hold on for last second win over Raptors

Andrea Bargnanis three-point attempt fell short at the buzzer, providing the Golden State Warriors a 77-75 comeback win over the Toronto Raptors. Jamaal Williams lay up with 1:45 left in the fourth quarter gave the Warriors a 76-75 lead which they held onto until Curtis Stinson hit one of two free throws with 11 seconds left to give the Warriors the 77-75 lead.
Bargnani, the first overall pick in the draft, continued to showcase his offensive arsenal as he hit outside jumpers, slashed to the basket and scored on post moves en route to 21 points (6-16 FG, 8-8 FT) and 11 rebounds.
Williams scored a game-high 27 points (13-18 FG) and grabbed eight rebounds in the win for the Warriors. Sean Banks was the only other Warrior in double figures, scoring 11 points on four of 10 shooting.
Nick Georges lay up in the third quarter gave the Warriors their first lead of the game at 56-55 and helped the Raptors by nine (20-11) in the third quarter.
The Raptors had a nine point lead at half, 49-40, behind Humphries 19 first-half points (his game total as well). Humphries was six of eight from the field and seven of eight from the free throw line in the half. He also grabbed seven rebounds in the process. Bargnani added 10 points (2-6 FG, 6-6 FT) and seven rebounds in the half.
Williams led the Warriors in scoring for the half with 10 points on five of eight shooting.
The Raptors shot 47 percent (14-30 FG) for the half, while the Warriors shot 42 percent (15-36 FG).
The Raptors finish league play tomorrow with a 3 p.m. contest against the Cleveland Cavaliers, while the Warriors end TVSL with a 1-4 record.
News and Notes: Warriors point guard Baron Davis was in attendance&Hornets rookie of the year Chris Paul was also in attendance watching former Wake Forest star Justin Gray and North Carolina native P.J. Tucker.
