So the Warriors play the Pelicans two more times this season. Should the Warriors tank those two games, and help the Pelicans beat out the Thunder for the 8th spot?

I voted no. Imagine they did that and faced OKC anyway.

Real contenders don't tank. Period.

Could come back to haunt them if they face Atlanta in the finals and Atlanta gets HCA.

Like the Dodgers tanked way back when to let the Padres with the West only to never win another playoff game for a decade?

Imagine OKC takes out the Warriors.

OKC has Finals expirience, Warriors don't.

Would probably be in Warriors best interest to draw the Pelicans.

I don't remember thinking they tanked so they could face the defending champion Atlanta Braves in 1996, and the last 3 Cy Young Award winners in games 1-3.

Imagine if they did it and lost to the Pelicans in the playoffs.

But it actually does make sense. They could realistically lose to OKC. But the Pelicans beating them sounds far more unlikely. Golden State has a better chance of making it past the first round if they play the Pelicans.

Are your chances of making it to the Finals better if you face an elite team, or a team that barely made the playoffs? Facing OKC is like facing another #1 seed in the first round.

Some could argue that it cheats the fans however. Also, a team like Golden State could have too much pride to think they should try to avoid anybody.

I would tank. Maybe it sends the wrong message to players on both sides, but I think the game is played on the court more so than in between players heads.

Didn't the Mavs when they won 67 games in 2007 tank vs the Warriors and sit all their starters which allowed them to get into the playoffs? The Warriors went on to eliminate the 67 win Mavs as the 8th seed.

I definitely would never tank especially if you are a playoff team it shows fear. Not to just the team you are trying to avoid but to every team.

I'm not even that confident okc will make the playoffs without ibaka for this long, there's an 8 line highway in their paint without him.

They were resting starters. They were NOT trying to play the Warriors (a team that dominated them in the regular season) instead of the Clippers. I'm
sure they thought their chances were better against the Clippers that year.

Also, if resting starters helped the Warriors get the 8 seed, then that would have sent a message that they didn't fear Golden State. That didn't help Dallas.

I think that example with Dallas helps show why you want a favorable matchup. Does anybody think the Clippers beat Dallas in the first round that year?
