The late Dean Smith, the legendary former head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels, willed $200 to each of his former players in Chapel Hill.

Smith died on Feb. 7th, but the executor of his estate wrote to each of his former players, sending them a letter and a check with a note asking them to “enjoy a dinner out compliments of Coach Dean Smith.”

Very selfless act....To think of all the players he thought of that were probably grieving after his passing, and his gift was to share the thought of friendship with each other over a meal.

oh $200 each. When I read this thread's headline I was thinking where on Earth is a whole team supposed to go for dinner with only $200?

That's a very sweet gesture by Coach Dean.

It would be sweet if all of Dean Smith's players went out together for a large dinner, and placed all the checks into one lump sum for charity.
