11 To Go… Looking like they were about to take another W, the Lakers had a 10-point lead in the first quarter. From that point, however, It was pretty much all downhill.

The Raptors steadily chipped away at the lead, winning the next three quarters. In the third quarter, the Raptors had a 12-3 run, but the Lakers were still in it. It was the 6-minute stretch in the fourth where they held the Lakers scoreless on an 11-0 run that sealed the deal.

“We just started missing shots,” Scott said as the Basketball Gods saved him from himself. Taking a W in this one would not have been good in the bigger picture of the tank battle.

The Lakers fell 94-83, shooting just 34.5% for the game.

“They just took the game from us,” Jordan Clarkson said, unlike the last one when no one wanted to take it.

Clarkson -- -- Very active game from Clarkson, despite the lackluster stats. He missed a few chippies in this one, and he should have been to the line more than twice. And, although he had no assists, he definitely moved the ball and setup teammates for good shots or FTs. Scott said this is one of the first stats he discussed after the game, but added, “A lot of that goes with the fact that guys didn’t make shots, either,” he said. Lin and Clarkson look like their chemistry is growing more and more on the floor. They are both able to stay pretty aggressive within our system and are starting to look for each other, as well. Their supporting cast tonight was just awful. The Stats: He scored 14 points on 6-14 shooting (2-2 from the line) to go with 4 boards (2 offensive), no assists, 2 steals, 1 turnover and 2 fouls in 33 minutes. He was a -8. The Action: He changed directions on the dribble, took some contact and banked in the short one for the Lakers first score. He missed an elbow jumper, followed it and finished the putback while still in air (very quick bounce back up on that). He missed a drive down the middle of the lane. He took contact on a drive with no call and missed a layup (should have been FTs). He missed an easy floater on a drive down the middle. He missed a tip in attempt. He swiped a pass and was fouled before he could score. He worked off the split play as it turned into a two-man game and scored a layup. He took an interior feed, flat-footed in the paint and powered up a dunk over a man, wow. He stripped a big, pushed it out, cut off a defender and scored the layup. He attacked the paint, elevated, switched hands and couldn’t finish. Great job cutting off Lin’s penetration, he took the pass and scored the layup. He missed a step-back wing jumper after taking a little too long to organize the offense. He got into the paint and set up Black for FTs. He attacked and dished to Black for FTs. He choked a layup on the break. He attacked the paint and worked a pass around defenders to Black who was fouled. Nice D bodying up his man on iso and challenging the shot to force a miss. Way off on a short elbow pull-up jumper. He scooped up a loose ball, pushed it out and got hacked for FTs, he made both.

Lin -- -- Lin led the team in scoring and assists (and turnovers) tonight. He took some hard fouls in the process. The first, of which, he was in a lot of pain and had to gather himself. He said he took some pain killers and relied on adrenaline. Outside of Lin and Clarkson, the rest of the team shot 17-55 (31%). The Lakers scored just 35 points in the second half. Just so many misses. “The ball movement can always be better in terms of moving it quickly…but I thought in general we were moving the ball and trying to make good plays,” Lin said, mentioning they weren’t hitting shots and the Raptors did a good job being aggressive defensively. I think whatever sickness he had, he gave to Boozer. The Stats: He scored 18 points on 6-15 shooting (2-5 from three, 4-4 from the line) to go with 7 boards, 5 assists, 1 steal, 4 turnovers and 3 fouls in 36 minutes. He was a +1. The Action: He fumbled a dribble, got it back and hit the three straight away. He deflected a pass, got it back from Clarkson and drew FTs, going down hard, he made both (in a lot of pain and taking his time). His kickout was picked off for points the other way. He was blocked on a drive. He swished a three on iso straight away. Wes found him all alone off a cut for a layup. He crashed the offensive glass and regained a possession against a big. He airballed a forced elbow jumper. He missed a long wing jumper. Sweet bounce pass to Davis ahead of the pack on the break for a dunk. Second Half: He missed a 20-footer. He probed, saw Clarkson cutting and hit him for the layup. He took contact, no call and threw it away on the perimeter. He attacked baseline, head faked after putting the brakes on and got clobbered (he liked that one), he made both. He missed a pull-up 15-footer. He missed a drive. He missed a wing three. He missed a three, got it back and missed the next one. He sank a wing pull-up jumper. He hit Davis on the rim run for a layup. Sloppy pass on the two-man game, turnover. Great challenge on the break to prevent a layup. He attacked, put on the brakes and banked in the short one. He threw a pass away on the break. He pushed up a miss and scored a layup.

Black -- -- He took a flagrant foul from Hansbrough, getting pulled down from behind. He bounced up quick, but showed composure. “I don’t take it personal at all,” Black said. Foul trouble limited his time in the first half. Meanwhile, when he was fouled, he missed FTs on a high clip. He said he was thinking too much. “I have the mechanics to shoot it. It’s just a matter of stepping up to the line, being confident and knocking them down,” he said. Good job getting to the line, just got to finish those. The Stats: He scored 7 points on 1-4 shooting (5-11 from the line) to go with 10 boards (5 offensive), 2 assists, 1 turnover and 4 fouls in 23 minutes. He was a -8.The Action: He took a bounce pass from Lin, missed a layup, got it back and powered in the putback And-1, he missed the FT. He tapped out an offensive board , when we missed, he got it back again and it led to a Kelly score. He couldn’t power up off the interior feed from Davis. Second Half: He drew FTs in transition, he made both. He lost the ball on a drive. Clarkson set him up in the paint for FTs, he missed both. He drew FTs on the interior feed from Clarkson, he missed both again. He attacked and couldn’t finish, but we got it back. He got pulled down hard from behind and got up quickly (but showed even temper), flagrant foul, he made both FTs. He drew FTs on the offensive glass, he made one.

Kelly -- -- He’s got to do a better job on the boards if he wants to be a PF. I thought he was warming up to the idea, but not in this one. He pulled down just 1 board in 31 minutes. Offensively, he had a pulse. He hit a three, had a nice dunk. At least in that respect he’s been looking better than at SF. He’s still rebounding like he’s an SF, however. The Stats: He scored 7 points on 3-8 shooting (1-2 from three) to go with 1 board, 1 steal and 3 fouls in 31 minutes. He was a +1. The Action: He missed a leaner when he probably should have just gone glass on a short jumper. He let a man fly by, moved in and hit the wing jumper. He missed a flat runner attacking from the corner. He missed a jumper. Second Half: He missed a three straight away. The D switched, got confused so he attacked and dunked. He sank a wing three, just beating the shotclock. He missed a leaning bank.

Johnson -- -- Good job on the glass tonight. More of that please. There’s no reason (other than his mental side of the game) that he can’t be doing this with frequency. He’s got to be an energy player and do those little things. You know he’s just going to turtle-up and no make an appearance on the boards in the enxt one. Offensively, he was one of the problems tonight – just missing jumpers at a high rate. The Lakers had just 14 assists. He and Ellington caused that number to be low with miss after miss. The Stats: He scored 6 points on 2-12 shooting (0-3 from three, 2-2 from the line) to go with 9 boards, 3 assists, 1 steal and 2 fouls in 32 minutes. He was a -3. The Action: Way short on a jumper from the top of the key. He missed a wing jumper. He missed a turnaround next time down. Horrible help D on the other end to give up a dunk. He missed a wing three. He hit Lin all alone under the hoop for a layup. He missed a wing jumper badly. He sank a wing jumper. He sank a baseline jumper. Second Half: He was blocked on a layup. Not close on a pull-up baseline jumper. He was fouled on a 20-footer, he made both. He missed an elbow catch and shoot. He missed a three on a kickout.

Davis -- -- “If you don’t get stops and easy buckets, it’s just tough to win,” Ed said. In that fourth quarter, the Lakers faded badly offensively. Yes, they could have battled better on D, but they only allowed 23 points, while scoring just 17. It wasn’t horrendous defensively. They just went dry and have a whole host of role players who don’t consistently produce on offense. You’re not going to win too many game with 83 points. Ed put up average numbers tonight (his season averages are 8 points and 7 boards…that’s what he got tonight). His highlight of the night was beating everyone down court and taking a nice bounce pass from Lin for the slam. The Stats: He scored 8 points on 3-6 shooting (2-2 from the line) to go with 7 boards (3 offensive), 1 assist, 1 block, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls in 18 minutes. He was a -12. The Action: He spun in the paint and drew FTs, he made both. He grabbed a Clarkson miss and scored. He threw a pass away in the backcourt (jumping to pass) and it led to a score. He missed a drive. He grabbed a board and threw a kickout away. He dunked on the break, getting ahead of the pack for Lin to find him. Second Half: He was strip-blocked out of bounds under the hoop. He scored a layup off the rim run.

Ellington -- -- He was still in Chuckington mode tonight. It’s awful, but the tank needs all the help it can get some nights. Chuckington has been putting up MVP numbers in that regard. He led the team with a -15. The last two games, he has shot a remarkable 7-32. In two games. For a role player. In one trip down the court tonight, Chuckington missed three shots. The Stats: He scored 9 points on 4-13 shooting (1-5 from three) to go with 2 boards in 27 minutes. He was a -15. The Action: He missed a corner three. He didn’t hit anything on a drive, shotclock violation. He sank a wing jumper. He swished a three from the other side next time down. Second Half: He missed a wing three. He swished a top-of-the-key catch and shoot. He missed a pull-up three. He took a pass from a big curling into the lane for a layup. Off the mark on a lob pass in transition. He missed a long pull-up jumper. He missed a three, we got it back. He missed a floater, but got it back. He then missed a baseline jumper (all three of those last shots came on the same possession). He missed a long wing jumper.

Brown -- -- Some nice drives to score at the rim, showing a little versatility from the perimeter-oriented game. Just 16 minutes while Ellington is getting 27. If Ellington wasn’t so key to tanking, I’d probably complain more about that. I’d like to see Brown get double digit shot attempts up, but playing with Ellington may make that difficult. The Stats: He scored 7 points on 2-5 shooting (0-2 from three, 3-4 from the line) to go with 1 board, 3 turnovers and no fouls in 16 minutes. He was a -8. The Action: He took an outlet, used his body well and scored a layup with his off hand. He missed a wing three falling back. A little off the mark on a pass to Sacre on the two-man game, turnover. Strong attack to the rim, he took hard contact and drew FTs, he made one. Second Half: With the clock low, he attacked down the middle of the paint, through traffic and scored the lefty layup. He missed a wing three. He drew FTs pushing the ball up court at the end of the quarter, he made both. He attacked and threw a pass away. Too hot on an interior feed to Black, turnover.

Sacre -- Better job in this one in most regards. His 5 boards is probably a bit deceptive. He seemed much more active than that, drawing some fouls and keeping balls alive. The Stats: He scored 7 points on 2-7 shooting (3-4 from the line) to go with 5 boards (3 offensive), 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 1 turnover and 3 fouls in 16 minutes. He was a -8. The Action: Nice challenge on a guard to get a miss. He deflected a pass to get a stop. He missed a face-up jumper. He battled for an offensive board, won it and hit the short one. He missed a 17-footer. He missed a 17-footer. He drew FTs and made both. He grabbed a bricked Wes jumper and dunked it back in. He missed a short baseline jumper. He had to force up a long missed jumper when Lin gave it to him late. Second Half: He kept a board alive for another Laker shot, then got fouled battling for that miss, he made both FTs. Nice challenge on DeRozen’s drive to force a turnover.

Scott -- -- The Lakers led 13-9 when the timeout came midway through the quarter. They gave up a dunk using the zone on D out of that. They are very predictable and trying to be unpredictable in those situations these days… Sacre in for Black, Ellington in for Clarkson, Lakers up 4… Wes clanking multiple shots… Davis and Brown in for Johnson and Kelly, Lakers up 4… An 8-0 Laker run and they led 24-14… The Lakers led 24-17 after the first quarter… Sacre, Davis, Brown, Ellington, Clarkson to start the quarter… Black in for Sacre, Lakers up 2… Black back out a few possessions later with foul trouble. Sacre in… All starters in except Sacre for Black to close… The Lakers led 48-46 at the half… The Lakers trailed by 4 when the timeout came midway through the quarter. He sat Clarkson out of that for Ellington… Sacre in for Black a few seconds later… He brought in Davis for Kelly, Lakers down 3… Still anyone’s game… Brown in for Johnson, Lakers down 6… The Lakers trailed 71-66 heading into the fourth. The Raptors flirting with pulling away at times… He started the Sacre, Davis, Brown, Ellington, Lin lineup… The Lakers quickly fell back by 10… He brought in Clarkson for Lin… Kelly and Johnson in, Lakers down 12… The timeout came with 5:16 left and the Lakers down by 16. This one about over… Lin back in for Chuckington. Didn’t matter… The Lakers shot 34.5% for the game, making just 4-17 from three… They had a 16-8 advantage on the offensive glass…

Is a JLin/Clarkson combo in the backcourt a recipe of success?

Will Black/Davis score enough to make next year's team successful

Does Boozer/JJill's absence confirm thT they are needed or not needed?

If surrounded by quality starters, all of these individuals could be successful role players; some might even be great starters. Imagine these players on the 2001 Shaq & Kobe team (I miss those days). An aging Boozer might have been really useful coming off the bench. These players are not capable of carrying a team either individually or as a group. They need some star players around them before these questions can be answered.

Does anybody believe that JHill can be a starter for an elite title-contending team? He would be an invaluable bench player

Is he a legitimate and consistent
• low-post offensive threat that demands double teams?
• consistent rim protector
• P&R defender

There are numerous teams with an abundance of draft choices and/or have a need to take on salary to meet NBA guidelines that might be interested in the Lakers' offer of JHill/draft choices other than the top one
