How do we know it was specifically Ryan?

We don't and he doesn't.

People come up with all kinds of bullsh*t so they don't have to say something good about Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak (who had the ultimate decision to draft Clarkson).

Props to Jim Buss, Mitch Kupchak, Bill Bertka (scouting director), Jesse Buss (scouting coordinator), Ryan West (assistant GM) and EVERYONE involved with drafting Randle and Clarkson.

Well of course the whole FO gets credit, but according to Luca it was Ryan West's report on Clarkson that sold the FO on buying a pick to get him

So glad Ryan West is taking charge. The less we have of the Buss family running our organization, the better. I bet his "partner" Jesse Buss is too inebriated to provide decent scouting reports half of the time.

My guess is it's Wiggins, Noel, Mirotic, Payton and Nurkic. Clarkson has to at least make 2nd team though.

He's been better than Nurkic, IMO. I think he has a chance to take that 5th spot.

I agree. Clarkson has not only been one of the five best rookies this year, but positionally Payton and Clarkson at the guards, Wiggins and Mirotic at forward and Noel at center makes sense.

Because anything positive comes from Ryan West due to his relationship with the great Jerry West.

If Clarkson had turned out to be another Darius Morris -- i'm certain the blame would've been placed on "Chaz"

The all-rookie teams are not chosen by position. It's just the 5 best rookies on the 1st team, the 5 next best rookies on the second team. You can have 5 centers or 5 point guards on the team.

than that just makes it even more likely with Clarkson as first team.

Some imo need to get past the hate and give credit where it's due instead of "I'll only thank the people I like even if they aren't the only ones responsible" stuff. Both Ryan and Jesse deserve credit.

Tarik Black was a great pick up too!

FO did their homework there also.

Plus we got him free of charge

Do you think it helps your position to needlessly trash a Buss for nepotism while doling out credit to a West?
You know, Ryan West who....
may....
or may not have been given a shot based on the achievements of his father...
And if he is as good as you believe him to be, why would he choose to saddle himself to that horrible Buss clan?
What a loser.

Good year to have been with a bad record. Allowed us to be at the top of the Tarik waiver claim.

Black is making Ed Davis expendable imo. If Davis can't come back for the right price I see the Lakers not being too hurt by it. I like Davis and he has been one of the few consistent bright spots, but for what price?

J. Brown does not look bad either. Not saying he is the future but wouldn't hate it if he backed up Kobe next year.

I'm not sure how they run these rankings, but anybody with half a brain would realize that kind of a performance from a rookie on a team that started off with 4 potential all-stars is a lot more impressive than whatever a player can do on the wolves, sixers, and magic.

When he's given playing time and free-reign like the last few weeks with Taj and Jimmy out he's a near all star level player. For most of the season he was treated like any other rookie of Thibs, even though he's more experienced than 99% of rookies coming into the NBA.

Dope. Great job finding these two.

Now give Mitch and Co. a top 5, a late 1st, and an early 2nd rounder. Do it Mitch.

The final ranking from the Rookie Ladder: Clarkson up to #5.
Despite a strong finish Tarik fell out of the top 10

(#11 is not that bad though)

Quote:
Coach Byron Scott on Monday: "Jordan Clarkson is obviously the brightest spot we've had this season."

ESPN's David Thorpe has Clarkson ranked on his All-rookie first team. Says some odd things otherwise, but trade rumors aren't really his bag. Anyway:

Quote:
Clarkson has easily been the biggest surprise of this draft class. Sure, it's helped that he hasn't had to compete for playing time much in L.A., but he has stepped up beautifully nonetheless.

With the Lakers looking to make a splash in free agency this summer, Clarkson could end up as a backup to a star acquisition or be moved in a trade as an asset. Of course, the Lakers may decide to keep him as their starter if they end up spending money elsewhere. Considering where he started from this season, as a second-round pick who became a rotation player only at the start of the calendar year, that's impressive.
