80 MPH Speed Limit

Montana Highway Patrol is already pretty kewl with speeding anyway. If you're driving a vehicle capable of safely traveling the speed you're traveling, they pretty much let you drive as fast as you want already.

It's all about the Benjamin's. Increase the fine, increase the speed. Don't increase the fine, don't increase the speed. I hope the chosen areas for increased speed have autobahn like roads.

I-90 across Montana is probably one of the best maintained Hwys in the country. Wide open flat road with long winding curves and near flawless asphalt. If you're more than 50 miles from one of the 3 population centers, Montana Hwy Patrol will pretty much let you drive as fast as you please, as long as your vehicle doesn't look suspect whilst doing so. Back in the 90's they did away with daytime speed limits all together and got dubbed "America's Autobahn" . (Here, I better link that in case someone is unable to find that colloquial term coined a decade or so ago America's Autobahn)

I drove on the I-80 through Idaho last summer with a speed limit of 80. It's nice to be able to set the cruise control to 80 without having to worry about some road pirates in costumes pulling you over.

On the flip side there are roads like 95 through south eastern Oregon with a speed limit of 55. It's an empty road. No reason to have a limit below 70.
