Ouch...hope they've got $115 M lying around somewhere...

So, does this kill half the P2P traffic going on today?

It'll be interesting to see what this does to/for BitTorrent. People will always find a new channel, and BitTorrent, while very popular, hasn't exploded yet in the same way P2P networks have. With Kazaa taken away, maybe that's the next big thing and the next music industry lawsuit target...

The death of kazaa really happened years ago. It was a flawed system at best that destroyed your computer. No doubt bit torrent will be the next target and by the time they shut that down people will already have been using whatever the new system is for a couple years.

And round and round we go...

My friend is always into the latest stuff with PCs. He stopped with Kaza about 2 years ago. Right now he uses Bit Comet I believe.

Well P2P shouldn't really be your first choice.

Newsgroups >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> P2P

Newsgroups will never be taken down has everything new right when its out and there is no sharing you just download as fast as your ISP allows and of course no government looking to fine you. No download limits nothing. You just download everything new right when its out. Every new movie release/game(pc or console)/Apps/PORN /music/tv-show/howardstern show etc. Everything is on there.

Newsgroups are just web sites or IRC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat) that can be private or not where people can get get together to hang out, exchange info, etc. You could even consider Lakersground a form of newsgroup. Usually they have features like discussion forums and hierarchical folders where files are stored for sharing with the group.

There are lots of newsgroups out there that exchange various forms of digital media such as music, software, video, etc. Some require a monthly subscription fee, while others might just be set up amongst a group of friends, etc. It's different from P2P or BitTorrent in that you're just downloading a whole file directly from a central server somewhere rather than pulling bits from various places or from different nodes in a P2P network.

Limewire seems to still hold up fine for me, gave up with Kazaa 2 or 3 years ago anyway because of sloooooooow searching and DL times.

I started using ISOHUNT this summer, seems to do wonders on finding just about anything I can imagine!

Well here's a tutorial
http://slyck.com/ng.php

But basically you need a news reader like neewsleecher/newsbin which are not free but well I got both and didn't pay for them. Also the most important part you need a news server. Some ISP's provide a free one for you. You need to check their website or call them to see if they have a free one for you. My ISP doesn't have a free one so I pay for one.

I use http://www.usenetserver.com/

40 bucks for 3 months.

Also this site list all the new NZB files that you can open up with your newsreader.

http://nzbsrus.com/browse.php

You can just search through groups like alt.binaries.multimedia/xbox to look for new stuff also.
