I hated the contract they gave Kobe and what it led to. We lost a lot of flexibility and we made Dwight and other FA's think it was going to be Kobe's show for a long time. There were so many negative consequences of that contract. Not Kobe's spot on the team, it was the number he got and what it meant. I'm not even a little upset Kobe made the money, he worked so hard in his career he earned it all.
All that said, you just don't do that to Kobe, unless he wants to retire. You signed him to that deal and you made your bed. You let him go out properly on his terms. And I think the Lakers wouldn't even consider it, especially Jeannie, she would veto it immediately. |
