Lakers Rumors: Trade Buzz Surrounding Jeremy Lin, Nick Young and More
By Thomas Duffy , Featured Columnist

As the Lakers work to clear cap space to sign free agents and absorb Hibbert's contract, Nick Young is a strong candidate to be unloaded, sources told Yahoo Sports. The Lakers are finalizing details to acquire Hibbert, and there remains a possibility Los Angeles could send a player to the Pacers in the agreement, sources said. The Lakers and Pacers had agreed on a future second-round pick as compensation for Hibbert and his $15.5 million 2015-16 salary getting absorbed into Los Angeles' salary-cap space.

Lakers agree to terms with Lou Williams and Brandon Bass

MIKE BRESNAHAN,
Eric Pincus
July 6, 2015, 3:30 a.m.

The Lakers added a veteran point guard to complement their backcourt youth, agreeing to terms with Lou Williams on a three-year contract worth about $21 million.

Williams, 28, was the NBA's sixth man of the year last season while averaging a career-high 15.5 points for Toronto.

He provides instant offense off the bench and gets to the free-throw line with regularity. He is more of a scoring guard than passing guard, averaging 2.9 assists per game in his career.

The Lakers have moved quickly to try to shore up their roster since whiffing on free agents LaMarcus Aldridge, Greg Monroe and DeAndre Jordan.

They added Williams on Sunday and acquired shot-blocking center Roy Hibbert from Indiana on Saturday for a second-round draft pick. They also agreed to undisclosed terms with veteran power forward Brandon Bass.

Lakers plan to sign Lou Williams, Brandon Bass
Monday, July 6, 2015

Associated Press
LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Lakers say they plan to sign guard Lou Williams, last season's Sixth Man of the Year, and forward Brandon Bass.

Williams averaged a career-high 15.5 points and helped Toronto win a franchise-record 49 games in 2014-15, his lone season there. The Lakers have upgraded their guard rotation by adding Williams after drafting Ohio State's D'Angelo Russell with the No. 2 pick.

Bass averaged 10.6 points while playing all 82 games for Boston.

Deals can't be signed until Thursday, but general manager Mitch Kupchak says Sunday in a release that the Lakers are negotiating with both players and intend to sign them once the free agent moratorium ends.

Los Angeles, the NBA’s Least Desirable Destination?

By JEREMY GORDON

Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant will not be playing with LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love or Greg Monroe next season. Associated Press
You can blame Dwight Howard for this. A few years ago, the perennially grinning All-Star center was offered a chance to stick with the Los Angeles Lakers—to stick with immortality, as the conventional wisdom went—and instead chose to sign with the Houston Rockets, far away from Hollywood and Kobe Bryant’s evil eye. The decision set off a chain reaction that might have both Los Angeles basketball teams struggling for relevance next season, in spite of their best efforts.

Lakers are set to sign Williams

POSTED: Monday, July 6, 2015, 1:08 AM
The Los Angeles Lakers said Sunday that they plan to sign guard Lou Williams, last season's sixth man of the year.

They also may unload Nick Young's contract to create cap space to reportedly sign Roy Hibbert and Brandon Bass.

Williams, who spent seven seasons with the Sixers, averaged a career-high 15.5 points and helped Toronto win a franchise-record 49 games last season.

The Lakers have upgraded their guard rotation by adding Williams and drafting Ohio State's D'Angelo Russell with the No. 2 pick.

Lakers Impress With Moves, Fill Out Roster
The Los Angeles Lakers made major moves over the 4th of July holiday weekend to turn their roster from laughable to respectable
By Shahan Ahmed

Brandon Bass #30 reportedly agreed to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers. In this file photo, Bass plays for the Boston Celtics against the LA Lakers on February 22, 2015 in Los Angeles, California.
Updated 6 hours ago
For the first four days of free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers begged LaMarcus Aldridge to join their youth project, twice. The strategy failed and the front office appeared out-of-touch and clueless to the reality of the free agency landscape. While the Lakers were on hands and knees begging an uninterested party, highly rated free agents around the league signed with teams from Boston to Portland and everywhere in between.
Once Aldridge finally decided that he would marry the San Antonio Spurs, the Lakers did not wallow in a dark room and cry tears of self-pity. No, the Lakers immediately rebounded with vigor and refreshed freedom. Aldridge made his announcement on the morning of July 4. By the afternoon, the Lakers' first move of the offseason leaked, and it made all too much sense.

Criticism of Lakers’ Free Agency Efforts Was Misplaced
by Hannah Kulik 23m ago

The Lakers placed all their free agency hopes this offseason on LaMarcus Aldridge, much like they did last year in their pursuit of Carmelo Anthony. Neither was an ideal fit for the team given the rest of the roster, but both were stars and we know how the Lakers respect star-power. In both instances the team struck out, and while waiting to be told “no,” they missed an opportunity to improve the team by adding smaller free agency pieces – moves that would not have amounted to a home run but could have served as important building blocks to attract free agents next year which will include Kevin Durant.

Lou Williams, Allen Iverson Protege, Will Love Lakers
by 2Paragraphs in Sports | July 6, 2015

Lou Williams, about to get wet
Drafted in the second round with the 45th pick, Lou Williams is maybe an unlikely candidate to be signing his biggest NBA contract yet 11 years later. But when his Los Angeles Lakers contract becomes official, Lou Williams' $21 million deal will look pretty sweet for a guy who came straight out of high school and stands only about 6'1". What Williams does that makes him so valuable -- and won him last year's NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award -- is easy to describe: Lou Williams scores.

Marcus Smart praises influence of ex-Celtic, Brandon Bass

Celtics guard Marcus Smart said he admired the work ethic of former teammate, Brandon Bass, who signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.

By:
Mark Murphy

Marcus Smart took a van to the arena for this morning’s shootaround, just to make sure he was fully stretched by the time every other teammate had arrived. The Celtics open the Utah Jazz Summer League tonight with a game against the host team.

Smart's desire to be the first one ready is a testament to a former teammate who set the bar for him — Brandon Bass, who agreed to terms with the Lakers Sunday.

“It’s easy to come into this life and lose your mind,” Smart said of how some NBA veterans lose their need to be the first one in the gym. “But seeing Brandon Bass, he doesn’t have to do it. He’s already established a name for himself. As a young guy you see that and think if he’s doing it, then you should start doing it.”

Lou Williams on joining Kobe Bryant: 'Greatness is contagious'
FOX Sports

JUL 06, 2015 2:26p ET

It's more than fair to say that the Los Angeles Lakers got a huge upgrade on their sixth man position with the signing of Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams, formerly of the Toronto Raptors. Williams is a marked improvement on Nick Young in basically every category -- and that includes in his willingness to learn from the greatest, Kobe Bryant.
Williams told Basketball Insiders' Alex Kennedy that he was looking forward to playing with Bryant because "greatness is contagious."

Rossetti to design LA Lakers $80 million HQ, practice facility

By BILL SHEA

Detroit-based architectural firm Rossetti Associates Inc. has been hired to design the Los Angeles Lakers’ $80 million corporate headquarters and practice facility scheduled to open in the spring of 2017.

It’s the latest major sports job for Rossetti, which specializes in sports and entertainment projects globally. The firm's basketball work includes design of the Palace of Auburn Hills for the Detroit Pistons, and the Cleveland Cavaliers' practice facility renovation.

The two-story, 120,000-square-foot building for the Lakers will sit on five acres in El Segundo and will be the team's first permanent practice facility and headquarters. It will include two full basketball courts, two half-courts, training and treatment areas, player courtyard, atrium, locker rooms, lounge, and corporate offices, according to Rossetti.

Would adding Tyson Chandler, Robin Lopez, DeMarre Carroll or Monroe (maybe Carroll) be helping the Lakers' plan - nope.

Who knows what will happen with the possible Chicago/Dallas' "sign and trade" options - along with the anticipated Young and Kelly (with the possible addition of Sacre) will provide for the Lakers that will add to their recent acquisitions (Hibbert, Bass and Williams)

Lakers Trade Rumors (Photo : REUTERS)

Fresh from agreeing to a trade with the Indiana Pacers for Roy Hibbert, the Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly working on another blockbuster trade, this time possibly for Chicago Bulls big man Taj Gibson.
Despite missing on several elite frontline players this free-agency period, the Lakers are determined to offset their recent setbacks by gambling on unwanted contracts of former All-Stars coming off star-crossed seasons.

The trade for Hibbert wasn't surprisingly at all since the Pacers have expressed their intent in unloading the big man's contract to create more financial flexibility and pave way for a faster offensive scheme.

Summer League Kicks Off With First Practice
by Joey Ramirez
Lakers.com Contributor
Posted: Jul 06, 2015

After sitting out his entire rookie season due to a fractured tibia, Julius Randle was more than ready for the first day of Lakers Summer League practice.

“I had an alarm, and I woke up way before my alarm,” Randle said. “I was just ready to get going.”

The 20-year-old, who estimates that he lost 15 pounds this season, made a quick impression on his teammates, including fellow 2014 draft class member Jordan Clarkson.

“Julius looked really good,” Clarkson said. “He’s a monster with the ball. He’s fast. He’s expanded his game with the outside shot.”

Done with Lakers, Steve Nash moves his game to soccer pitch

By Jacob Feldman July 6 at 2:26 PM

After retiring from the NBA in March, Steve Nash appears to be trying his hand at professional soccer. (Kirby Lee/USA TODAY Sports)
Have you heard that Steve Nash is considering giving professional soccer a try after retiring from the NBA in March? The New York Daily News reported Friday that Nash is training with the New York Cosmos B team of the National Premier Soccer League.

Of course, this is not Nash’s first flirtation with the global sport that America now cares about.

We’ve always known the Canadian is a soccer fan. Even at his peak, the two-time NBA MVP admitted to watching “much more soccer than basketball.” He has run a charity soccer game for years, his father and brother played professionally, and he has trained at least twice with the Vancouver Whitecaps, an MLS club he co-owns.

Jordan Clarkson: D’Angelo Russell Makes The Game ‘A Lot Easier For Everybody’

Once the Los Angeles Lakers drafted D’Angelo Russell with the second overall pick, visions of backcourt pairing with last year’s outstanding rookie Jordan Clarkson began to surface. Both guards are capable of playing on and off the ball and compliment each other very well.

Julius Randle, D'Angelo Russell, summer squad start training camp

BY ERIC PINCUS
July 6, 2015, 3:29 p.m.

On Monday, the Lakers opened training camp for their summer league squad.

The team features a number of players expected to be on the regular-season roster this season, including Julius Randle, D'Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., Anthony Brown, Tarik Black and Jabari Brown.

Randle, the Lakers' seventh overall pick in 2014, is looking forward to playing five-on-five again after suffering a season-ending broken leg on opening night.

"I feel really good," Randle said after practice. "We've been playing pickup, but this is the first NBA game speed type of stuff that I've done."

Julius Randle: 'Excitement, hunger, anticipation' over Lakers practice

Baxter Holmes, ESPN Staff Writer

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Not since Julius Randle suffered a season-ending broken leg during his NBA debut last year has the power forward engaged in an organized practice with teammates.

Not until Monday, that is.

Randle, the Los Angeles Lakers' top draft choice in 2014, joined other members of the team's summer league squad for a practice session at the team's facility leading into Friday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Las Vegas.

The new Lakers: Williams, Bass, Hibbert
Rick Brisse July 6, 2015 Lakers, NBA 81 Views

The Lakers will have a much different team on the floor when the 2015-16 season opens, and it will be interesting to see how competitive Los Angeles can be next season.

The Lakers selected guard D’Angelo Russell and forwards Larry Nance Jr. and Anthony Brown in last month’s NBA draft.

This summer, the Lakers have added All-Star center Roy Hibbert, reigning Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams and Celtics forward Brandon Bass.

Hibbert, 28, averaged 10.6 points and 7.1 rebounds in 76 games with the Pacers.

http://sportsglory.com/nba/the-new-lakers-williams-bass-hibbert/44812

Williams, 28, averaged a career-best 15.5 points in 80 games this past season.

Bass, 30, started 39 games games for the Celtics, averaging 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game.
