ABC will add to its NBA coverage next season with the debut of a Saturday night game in January. ''Saturday Night NBA on ABC'' will begin Jan. 23 and be the first of eight games that will be televised at 8:30 p.m. ET through the end of the season. The network had previously aired Sunday doubleheaders and now will air one game Saturday night and one game Sunday.
It's like watching 3D Artistry that can only compare to itself. And it isn't one of those things where old timers always say, OH it was so much better back then. This is the sound of the NBA. Last thing it would need is Dick Stockton and Tommy Heinsohn(Before he went senile) doing the commentary. _________________ Because we're better than you!
It's funny, I hate ABC's coverage as well, but I do remember the last few years of NBA on NBC, most fans were sick of it. They had monster size ad blocks on the screen at various points of the game - fts, etc, some bad on-air talent (Tom Tolbert as an example), and outside of the theme music, the production quality felt mediocre. Maybe they knew they weren't renewing, and pulled funds, but I definitely did not enjoy the last year or two of NBA on NBC coverage.

Stockton and Heinsohn were when the NBA was on CBS. Maybe I'm just old, but I'm kind of partial to the CBS intro from the 80's

It ain't just you when it comes to the CBS intro.
I get chills watching that.
They all seem to set the stage for the game a matter of fact manner which I miss back in the day.
But that doesn't seem to mesh with the overall style nowadays which at times is terrible (Van Gundy, Mark Jackson, etc.)
Best way would be a mix of CBS and NBC style.
Totally scrap this ESPN/ABC style.

It speaks volumes about the state of network television that it makes sense to run a basketball game in prime time on Saturday.
Nobody watches scripted TV programming on Friday/Saturday nights....those are the nights with the lowest ratings on TV. As I recall, those games were probably gonna be on NBATV so its a win win for both the NBA and ABC.
Didn't even remember about this until you bumped it...LOL
Looking at the matchups, it looks like they will actually be some quality games on Saturday night setup for ABC.

Tolbert was on NBC? My first negative impression of the ABC broadcast was the awful Tom Tolbert (who worked alongside Al Michaels-- who wasn't bad, but doesn't know basketball) _________________ -Avenue of the Champions- -RIP Dr Buss- #824
