What was the question?

I think it was "Have you guys heard from Kobe, and if so, what did he say?"

Haha, I winced and turned away. That was very awkward and I couldn't help but question whether there was more to it than simply not hearing from Kobe yet.

Takes 10 seconds to send a text to the 3 new guys welcoming them to the family

Wait, so let's make Kobe the bad guy for not speaking to these three guys? You have to be kidding me.

Actually yeah. When you're the alpha male and the face of the franchise for the last decade, you do have some unspoken responsibilities.

Give me a break. Damn this board. So what would your opinion be if Kobe decided to contact them after the press conference?

If Kobe sent a text what would it say?

Emojis.

5 championship trophies.

Not good enough! He must text them at least before or it's a complete failure of leadership now and throughout his entire career and adds substantially more evidence why Lebron is so much better and actually was even in high school better than Kobe with his Stalinstyle leadership ever was at any point in his career. Because, you see, he texts people. Actually any great leader knows you have to text everyone in your organization that you will deal with before any announcement for their arrival. From this, you can surmise that Kobe is a bad father and also a bad driver. He probably never signals before changing lanes.

not really care whether Kobe texted or not. he's just playing out his last contract year with the Lakers. i don't think front office will renew him even at a lower price tag. time to turn the page for both parties.

Bass smiling, Roy's face expression didn't change, Lou looking around like should I say something?

This is ridiculous, truly ridiculous.

He doesn't have to. Its his choice. It doesn't make him a bad guy. But it speaks to the type of environment Lakers have versus other teams.

Just cuz Kobe hasn't spoken to these guys yet doesn't mean that he won't. They literally just had their conference today. People need to settle down.

Kobe spoke to Russell and gave him some kind words so it's not like he isn't fulfilling what he needs to do. I'm pretty sure Kobe knows what he's doing

Thanks for the heads up!

Bass reminds me of Don Johnson in that suit and 80's rolex president, I'll bet he was wearing loafers with no socks also!!

Lou really, really wants to shed that "shooter" label.

Hibbert, man this dude is HUGE!!

Me like

It's not the question it's the bizarre response. All they have to do is say "no" and there's no headline or story.

I doubt they are thinking of media reaction when answering these questions. They probably thought it was stupid and reacted accordingly.

I heard the silence on 710 and thought it was weird. So I went to my DVR and watched on TW sports and it was even weirder. LOL! Bass had a weird smile, Hibbert shook his head with eyes looking down at table.. indeed bizarre.

Nobody even spoke up to say something cliche like.. No we haven't, looking forward to it, we'll see him at practice... Instead, the crickets transition to another question.
I think the Lakers brass sold Hibbert and company on the young core of Russell, Randle, and Clarkson. Not so much with Kobe. Kobe hasn't been able to stay healthy.

This is how I see it. If he's healthy fine but the Lakers aren't counting on him like he's the future. They're moving on with the young core.

Again how do you know he's not going to? Didn't realize there was a countdown clock for something like that

THIS. The question was totally fine. A "not yet" answer would've totally been normal too. The silence is why this is a news story at all..

In case anyone reading this thread wants actual information, this is a paraphrase of what I thought were key points:

Hibbert has dropped 16 pounds and says he seeks advice from Kareem. Focused solely on defense and getting back to being one of the best rim protectors in the league. Any added offense is "candy."

Williams said he is more than just a scorer and looks at himself as more of a creator for himself or his teammates. Likes to get to the free throw line. Said that there is no reason for media to pit Nick Young against him since they are teammates now. Said in TOR they ran way more isos and that's why his assists fell off from a high of 4 per game to around 2. Said that he wants to lead by example for Russell and Clarkson and brought up how he came into the league with Philly and had the best of both worlds learning from an ultratalented Allen Iverson and a hardnosed Kevin Ollie at the same time.

Bass is a man of few words. Doesn't know how his role will fit in and help Julius but just wants to do what he does. Work hard, be a good teammate, rebound, defend.

Thanks for the actual information!

Threads like this are why I sometimes prefer the model where upvoted posts move to the top. You have to slog through 3 pages of utter crap about whether someone texted someone else or not, or whether someone is sweating, to get actual good content. LG really needs a way to highlight good content sometimes (let us give a +1 and the post gets a purple box to distinguish it or something!).

To be honest, the entire press conference sounded like a bad job interview. If you didn't see it, you're not really missing much.

I think Kobe should've at least texted them. Their silence when asked showed they weren't too pleased they hadn't heard anything from him and being asked by the media made it worse (that's how it looked to me).

Kobe's always been like this it shouldn't be surprising to people he is the alpha for a reason they can contact him if they so please im sure they have his #, if not he'll see them during practice.

I think that's why they reacted the way the did. McMenamin already knew the answer to the question, he's just trolling for drama.
