Where did the Big shot bob thing come from!!!!!??

It annoys the hell out of me.

It's Big Shot Rob. Is so simple it hurts. Robert/Rob.

He has even said himself that it's Rob not Bob. The Lakers past assistant coaches have said it's Rob.

How did the bob thing get started?
Tim Duncan started this iirc.

That is correct. Robert Horry was Big Shot Rob with the Lakers. Then when he went to the Spurs and Tim Duncan found out he hated "Big Shot Bob". So Tim said it all the time and the media kept it going - I think they like the alliteration. And Tim was doing it 100% straightfaced, so no one knew he was joking. Tim was doing it just to mess with Horry.

Hubie Brown would call him Big Shot Bob all the time when Horry was on the Lakers.

Big Shot Todd would be even better though.

Paul Pierce would have been "Big shot Sob."
Michael Cooper would have been given the name (by Magic Johnson) "Big shot Lob."
Shaq would have given himself the name "Big shot Blob."
Smush Parker would have been "Big shot Noob."

Maybe, but by and large people referred to him as Big Shot Rob when he was with the Lakers and Big Shot Bob when he was with the Spurs. That's my memory and judging by others in the thread, I'm not the only one.

I don't care about Robert Horry... or his nicknames. Personally, I call him "Along For The Ride" Rob.

Apparently, you have never seen ANY games of him playing with the Lakers

I'm surprised people didn't know this. Every Bob's official legal name is Robert.

Jerry = Gerald

I think he was called Big Shot Bob a few times by lazy and misinformed sports journalist(s) before he ever came to the Spurs but there are many times when Tim called him "Big Shot Bobby" and "Big Shot Bob" jokingly because he knew it annoyed Horry. It wasn't malicious but Tim was probably the only Spur who could get away with it.
Horry's hip check on Nash in Phoenix and Nash's subsequent flop that cleared the bench and the suspensions is a part of Spurs lore. He was a remarkable role player with the rings to prove it.
