Don't fly into Newark

Visit the 911 memorial

Don't get bleacher seats facing the sun at a Yankees game

Don't buy hotel breakfast buffets unless you wanna be down $200 before 9AM

Check out the Chrysler building it's usually devoid of people

See the UN

Go laugh at Fox News anchors through the see through glass

And all the other typical stuff like Statue of Liberty ellis island etc

Here's my two cents: The Halal Cart on 53rd and 6th

It's simple, it's not avant-garde or anything, but mother of god did it hit the spot. I heard that they may have gone from a street cart to actually having a permanent location. Do not go to just ANY Halal cart, though. There are a ton of generic carts which all look verrrry similar, the bastards. To be safe, look for the one with the longest line.

They're opening places in SoCal now. http://laist.com/2015/03/06/halal_guys_coast_mesa.php

After many visits over the last 30 years since I first visited, my best advice is to just go out and enjoy the city. Walk around and people watch. Visit the various neighborhoods, Upper Westside, Midtown, SoHo, Tribecca etc. Find a neighborhood restaurant. Visit a small gallery. Feed on the vibe that is an amazingly alive city.

I've visited the various museums, seen the various sites, done the Broadway thing and they are all cool and interesting.

But when I look back on my many visits to NY, my favorite memories all trace back to the times I was just wandering around enjoying the city.
