D’Angelo Russell’s Statistical Expectations
by Corey Hansford - lakersnation.com

Topic: We wonder what rookie point guard D’Angelo Russell needs to average in order for his first season to be a successful year?

Context: The Los Angeles Lakers were fortunate enough to move up to the second overall pick and used it to take Ohio State point guard D’Angelo Russell. Even though many expected the Lakers to take Jahlil Okafor, the front office and coaching staff ultimately felt that Russell had more upside and was more likely to become a superstar.

Russell struggled during his Summer League run, averaging more turnovers than assists and struggling with his jumper, but his potential remains outstanding. With head coach Byron Scott saying that Kobe Bryant will play mostly small forward this season, it would seem as if Russell will be starting in the backcourt next to Jordan Clarkson, which means Russell will be seeing plenty of minutes and have the opportunity to put up some solid numbers.

As a rookie point guard, especially with the Lakers, all eyes will be on Russell from Day 1 and the pressure will be on for him to produce immediately. However, rookies rarely look great from the beginning and it tends to be worse with point guards.

The talent is clearly there with Russell as well as the opportunity and he is arguably the most important piece of the Lakers rebuild. His success is paramount to the team turning things around as quickly as possible. But what would be considered a successful season for the rookie?

Los Angeles Lakers Will Regret Not Drafting Norman Powell
by George Middleton - rantsports.com

e Los Angeles Lakers had a busy 2015 NBA Draft. With the second pick in the draft, the Lakers selected talented freshman guard D’Angelo Russell. The pick was surprising, not because Russell isn’t worthy of the selection, it was primarily because the Lakers needed a center and Jahlil Okafor was on the board.

The Lakers took Larry Nance Jr. with the 27th pick in the first round. This pick was definitely surprising as many mock drafts had Nance Jr. going late in the second round or undrafted. Nance is a terrific athlete and he is capable of defending both forward spots.

What made the Nance selection strange is that the Lakers could’ve gotten him with their 34th pick, which they used to land Anthony Brown. At Stanford the last two seasons, he shot above 44% from three-point range. He is also a versatile defender that can defend both wing spots.

There’s one player that they will regret not selecting, Norman Powell.

VIDEO: Jordan Clarkson Cracks Top 10 Dunks List In NBA Summer League
by Ryan Ward - lakersnation.com

During the NBA Summer League last month, Jordan Clarkson was arguably the best player on the floor for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Not only did Clarkson continue to show his dedication to improving his craft, but he also came away with one of the best highlights in Las Vegas with a posterizing dunk on Jack Cooley of the Utah Jazz.

How Kobe Bryant needs to emulate Wizards-era Michael Jordan
by Matt Moore - cbssports.com

Kobe Bryant is wrestling with The End. His career is coming to a close, and while he's not ready to hang up the Nikes just yet, he's definitely aware of how quickly his retirement is approaching. It may be next summer, it may be the year after (or the year after that), but the truth is that he doesn't have much time left.

Bryant's also had a rough go of it in these last few years. His past three seasons have ended with injury. The 2012-13 season brought the Achilles tear, an injury he tried to remedy himself by literally trying to pull the tendon up before nailing two free throws as his final on-court act -- a sequence I still cannot believe. Next season he fractured his leg, just weeks after returning from the Achilles. Then 2015 ended prematurely with his shoulder injury.

For most of his career, Bryant has been compared to Michael Jordan. The two will appear on most people's lists as No. 1 and No. 2 for the all-time greatest shooting guards in NBA history, and some would include Bryant along with Jordan in their top-five of all time lists. Lakers blog Silver Screen and Roll had an interesting post positing how Bryant could possibly extend his career in part by modeling it after Michael Jordan's late run with the Wizards.

Lou Williams Drops 51 At Wallace Prather Pro-Am In Atlanta
by Ryan Ward - lakersnation.com

Reigning Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams put his incredible scoring ability on display recently with veteran guard exploding for 51 points during the Wallace Prather Pro-Am. Williams provided a glimpse of what the Los Angeles Lakers may get off the bench next season with the scoring machine lighting up the scoreboard in Atlanta.

Williams was getting it done inside and outside offensively as can be seen in this video on Instagram of some of his highlights from the 51-point performance:

You might have read the title to this article and clicked just to comment, "You mean a 'figurative' sea of people, right?" No, friends. Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant posted a photo to his social media accounts early Monday morning from an even in China in which fans could be seen to the horizon:
