It's a shame we aren't giving Alex more run support in this game. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold. |

Is Joc Pederson allergic to stealing bases or something? Two outs, top of the order up, Carlos Ruiz is 5 for 43 in throwing out base stealers this season, and he just stands there. |

A little confused why his minor league base-stealing numbers never translated to the bigs.
I understand stealing 30 bases is difficult, but he has like, what, 4 or 5 this season

Although Peralta gave up the grand slam, not putting this on him.
Pathetic-ass offense who can only muster up one run when we seem to have guys in scoring position with less than two outs every inning is the main culprit today.
Plus, didn't like Howie's decision to not tag Ruiz on that grounder to start the inning. Getting the lead runner out there would've changed the inning for sure (wouldn't have IBB the next guy).... |

If the Dodgers do not have a D-Backs of 2001 run this year, Big Unit, Schill reenacted in Grienke and Kershaw, they will be bounced in the NLCS at the latest if not first round. _________________ Because we're better than you! |

Urias' innings are so far down since he missed two months with the eye surgery, and they aren't letting him throw many innings per start anyway, that I'm wondering if they would consider calling him up in September and seeing how he might fare in the bullpen. With the possible thought that he could make the postseason roster as a bullpen weapon. This team just doesn't seem like it has the bullets in the bullpen. I don't trust anyone other than Kenley, and even he has his warts as a one-pitch pitcher going against tough hitters in the postseason.
I know he's 18, but it's just a thought. |

For the second-guessers, on Sunday, Latos, a new guy who's tendencies are less known, goes 6, gives up 1 and Mattingly yanked him, and there were complaints. Yesterday, Wood, another new guy, goes 6, gives up a run and Mattingly, leaves him in. On Sunday the Dodgers had a well rested bullpen; yesterday, they did not. Both decisions are sound. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

Not unprecedented, Angels did it with K-Rod in 2002 _________________ "Rome wasn't built in a day" |

The concern, as always, is putting a young person into pressure situations too early in their career. I can't remember his name, but the Giants had some phenom in the late 80's, early 90's, as I recall, and they brought him up to relieve during the pennant stretch. He got shelled, and lost his confidence. (I looked it up and I believe this was Salomon Torres.)
The other issue is that Urias has not been exceptional as of late. He did have a no-hitter through five in his last start but he gave up 2 earned on walks. He is 1-4 with a 3.30 in AA ball. I'd be reeeeeal careful with him. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

Tidbits:
Peraza is playing short (hitting .303 in AAA) and Seager (hitting .275 in AAA) is playing third. Hmmmm. Sounds like the team may have one too many left-side infielders and maybe one too few on the right (depending on Hendrick), next year.
Of course, we might have 22 trades involving 67 players, and end up with a second baseman. Or could we will see Barnes-2b, instead of Barnes-C? _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

No point in starting Urias' service clock this year. |

22-10 to start the season.
38-36 since.
That sizzling start gave us house money to play with. Barely floating over .500 for the other 2/3 of the season we've played. |

If the Dodgers determine that he could help a weak bullpen in the postseason, trust me, they aren't that worried about service clock. They would only do it if they were desperate, admittedly.
As I said earlier, the Dodgers clearly appear to have the worst bullpen of any of the likely NL postseason teams. And it's not likely that they will be able to pull off a trade for an impact reliever in August, although you never know. If they want a meaningful improvement, they might have to get creative. Remember, Friedman was the GM that oversaw David Price being used as the Rays' closer in the postseason when he first came up in '08, and that was the only year they made it to the World Series. Granted, Price was not 18, but I'm just saying that I am not ruling out some creativity from Friedman. |
