But if he does play, I hope he impresses some of the future all star free agents he plays against.

He'll have a chance to impress those same free agents in the NBA.

I believe once you choose which nation you will represent, you can't switch afterwards. So basketball-wise he's rescinding his citizenship.

Like I said in the clarkson thread, I can't knock him if he does it, but I'd prefer for selfish reasons if he didn't play for them

His dad made a valid point. Timing is everything.

The season is too close for JC to play for another team.

The Lakers are the #1 priority.

Clarkson made the right choice. I hope he doesn't get a lot of backlash from his Philippine fans.

MVP to meet Lakers brass over Clarkson's Gilas stint?

Quote:
There are plans for SBP President Manny V. Pangilinan to fly to Los Angeles to meet the Los Angeles Lakers' officials for Jordan Clarkson's possible release.
The FIBA Asia Men's Championship in Changsha, China will run from Sept. 23 to Oct. 3 and will run smack to the Lakers' annual Media Day in Los Angeles on Sept. 30.

Doesn't training camp start the day of media day or the day after? Obviously you can't have him missing any of training camp so that he can play basketball elsewhere. If he plays in a game or two before training camp fine.

I HOPE THIS FINALLY PUTS THIS STORY TO REST!!

Lakers News: Jordan Clarkson Will Not Play For The Philippines

Quote:
With Clarkson not playing for the Philippines in international competition this summer, the up-and-comer will get back to focusing on being ready for training camp with the Lakers. The NBA preseason won’t get underway for the Lakers until Oct. 4 against the Utah Jazz in Honolulu, Hawaii. Training camp should get started during the final week of September.

SBP STILL hopeful Clarkson to join Philippine five in Fiba-Asia

Quote:
Vargas said the Lakers officials have no objection for Clarkson to play for the national team on a long-term program.

But a stint by Clarkson in the forthcoming Asian meet is subject to the approval of “the Lakers coaches” since it will run in conflict with the Lakers’ media day on Sept. 28 and the Lakers’ training camp in Hawaii on Sept. 29-Oct. 7.

In the Asian meet, Oct. 1-3 is set for the quarterfinals, semifinals and final.

“They requested some time to talk to the Lakers coaches,” said Vargas.

Child of an American born outside of US soil is an american citizen from birth ala John McCain and Ted Cruz

I think Phillipines has same law which makes Clarkson dual citizen eligible... not sure what the big deal of him playing for Gilas. It's been done by other dual citizen athletes in past

I'd rather he turn them down this time. Can't miss part of training camp
