I kind of wish we could have kept Wes Johnson. He's been terribly underwhelming but I get this sneaky feeling he would have worked on this team.

Wesley sucked on the Wolves, he sucked with the Suns, and sucked with the Lakers. Lakers gave him a shot for two straight years and he failed big time. Even became lazy at the ONE thing he was supposed to be good at.

No Wesley would not have worked out because the fact of the matter is that he didn't work out. He didn't work out with his two previous teams, and he certainly did not work out here. If he showed ANYTHING more than the crap performances he did here, or being a complete ghost on the court at best, than I would probably agree with you but even that's a stretch.

I'm more than glad he's also gone. We don't need anymore busts on this team.

The problem last year was that he was placed in a position where he had to do more than he's capable. I actually think he will play well as a role player on the Clippers by running the break and playing D.

I think with DLO/Clarkson he could have simplified his life. Oh well.

Well we got a player at the wing that does a much better job at making open shots from Clarkson/DLO's passes. He's a little old and they call him "the black mamba" but I'm sure he will be a little more effective at making their lives easier than Wesley would.

If we had the technology to do that, I would rather transfer it to Robert Sacres.

Maybe Mr. Kelly, but here is Sacre's body: http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/images/photos/002/810/634/86c9a47f72644773c83f9d8fbe3ee0d1_crop_north.jpg?w=630&h=420&q=75

And here is....yours: http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/teamsites/images/legacy/lakers/140122_kelly_ffl_670.jpg

But at least you aren't Frank Kam. That guy's body is as skinny as mine.

Too early to say Randle is not a rebounder. He was elite in college, and that is one stat that almost always ends up translating. On offense, he has virtually no experience playing pick and roll, but when he gets that down he becomes a multi faceted threat in conjunction with either guard. Roll hard, spot up, float to the wing for a weak side attack, etc.

That is why Mitch is so excited, he has never had a player who can do the types of things that Randle can do. I think it is more "what have you done for me lately" from fans. Not many remember that kid coming out of Kentucky that we were so excited about last season.

In just a very short stint, when the team finally let Russell and Randle run pick and roll, they returned a PPP of 1.4 on the play in summer league.

Randle is going to be a stud. People are freaking out because he missed a few 1 foot shots in summer league that from now on he will probably just dunk or easily make.

The guy gets anywhere he wants to with the ball, that is a good attribute to have, trust me.

I am not worried at all about Randle, he will rebound sufficiently for his position, I remember the same knocks on Worthy early in his career which were also premature.

Back in the day, people used to argue if we were better than the Celts
or more recently, people on LG argued if we were better than the Spurs

Now, we've got multiple pages of people arguing if we're worse than the Wolves

Yes, our young bucks will have some growing pains, but it'll be fun to see them improve through the year. I'm also glad we got Hibbert/Lou/Bass, as they will be good stabilizing forces.

Of course I'd love a playoff team, but just seeing how this team will be so much more enjoyable to watch/follow is a vast improvement from last year which was full of 1 year rentals.

Yeah. Me too. I'm looking forward to a season that doesn't seem like a chore to watch. I agree with what you wrote, besides your dogged insistence on keeping DeRozan in your sig wish list.

I just have a weird hunch about DRoz. I would prefer Batum but I can see the stars aligning.

The positives in this year's team is that they have some better veteran players and there's always a possibility that Kobe will stay healthy. A healthy Kobe (even a 20 ppg guy), Hibbert and Lou will be better than our top 3 last year.

The one negative I see in this year potentially is that despite having a lot of youth that can develop and play in Russ, Clarkson, Randle and Nance even, there's not going to as much PT available as was for last year's guys. I think Hibbert and Bass will solidify themselves as reliable starters for Scott, and Lou will get a lot of minutes as he can score. If Kobe is healthy, that leaves little shots and PT for the other young guys on the team. They'll really need to fight for scraps on O at times, and have to defend and make their outside looks. Which usually isn't a trait of young players. Byron will have to find the right lineups. Years ago when we had the same sort of thing, it worked out well because the younger guys like Farmar, Bynum etc. came off the bench. We had a bench unit loaded with youth and athleticism. Byron seems to want to start the younger guys, and I think this will be tricky if Kobe/Lou/Hibbert are taking up as many plays as I anticipate they will.

IMO we'll be a better team, but will miss out on the playoffs.

I think Randle will be an offensive machine, my concern will be defensively, is he willing to defend his position? I think he will drive the ball down the throats of the opposition, he will be a nightmare to defend. I believe he will draw more fouls than any Laker this season. He has SF skills and in a PF body. He reminds me a little bit of Charles, wide shoulders and very qoick

I don't expect Julius to play defense like Draymond Green, or alter shots like Roy Hibbert. If he can play like Durant's defense it will be enough.
