Isn't Huertas a P&R specialist like Nash and Lin?

I'm feeling nervous with how he'll gel with Byron.

Byron ran more pnr later in the season. We can only hope that his princeton offense shows early trouble/failure and he is reduced to playing to the strength of the players we have.

Lakers actually ranked high in pick and rolls run last year. It was mostly Byron's refusal to run them at the beginning of sets that was different.

He had Kobe to consider then, which is why I don't put much stock in anything that happened late season now. Their summer league offense certainly didn't reflect much of a change, although the last game I thought they ran more straight PnR.

That's true, and while I don't have a lot of co-believers, I think the tank was on pretty early last year, once Kobe hurt the shoulder in pre-season, and certainly when Randle went down. Had everyone been healthy, I think he relaxes his offense much earlier.

he was a good shooter in college, but not still unproven.... not sure if he is athletic enough to guard SFs... we will see... young is over him in depth chart no doubt

Ryan Kelly actually showed some signs of life late in the season, it just seems like hes always injured.

Marcelo Huertas Takes Leap Of Faith To Join Lakers

Quote:
To leave one of the top clubs in the world in the midst of such an accomplished career for an unguaranteed deal in Los Angeles speaks volumes on how determined Huertas is to prove that he can contribute to an NBA club.

As 24 said he has a 2 year deal. Doubt we cut him.

Nice interview with Huertas, clip of Kobe guarding Huertas, Huertas talking about helping Russell.

Closer Look: Marcelo Huertas

Quote:
The 32-year-old point guard comes to Los Angeles after seven seasons in the Liga ACB — Spain’s top league.
The three-time ACB champion leaves behind a decorated Spanish legacy, which includes six years among the league’s top 10 assist leaders.

IMO a nice signing of a veteran player w/o any baggage.

Yes, great job there by Mitch. The coach can be more aggressive with DLO's development knowing there is a solid vet to fall back on.

The Lakers are planning to draft Star Wars in the 2016 draft and are bringing in his future mentor a year early to get acclimated with the team.

Nice passing, reminds me a lot of Nash.

I thought it was a good move. He could be like our Pablo Prigioni and provide that veteran presence for our young guards. I'm sure he'll only be able to enhance Russell's game.

Now bring on Artest and we are set.

Marcelo Huertas update

Quote:
Huertas has spent his career playing internationally, most recently with FC Barcelona. Finally a free agent, the 6-foot-3 guard passed up more lucrative opportunities.

"I was under contract for the last six years and never had the chance to leave Europe without paying a big buyout, so this was the year I finished contract and I had a real chance to jump to the NBA," Huertas said.

I like Kelly's game. He is a specialist, not a starting player and not a 3. If you use him as a stretch 4 off the bench he can get it done for about 10-15 minutes off the bench. He actually has pretty good handles for a big guy and the high release on his jumper make him really hard to defend.

Here's a good article on Huertas that gives a little insught on him. The article is from back in April while he was contemplating a move to the NBA.

Good signing.

I have high hopes for DLo, however, he is not ready yet.

Just curious, but can Huertas be a rotational player? We could definitely use a steady backup PG. He seems like a smart player, so he could maybe mentor Russell a bit. But I'm not sure if he can hang with NBA PGs.

Increasingly impressive to Lakers players in open gym: Euroleague point guard Marcelo Huertas. He has a real chance to make roster.
