Eurobasket final, end of 3rd, Spain up by 17 against Lithuania. Gasol with game-high 19 pts so far. Valanciunas or any other Lithuanian can't stop Pau right now.

Pau is MVP, the most anti-climactic MVP choice if I ever saw one.

I'm stoked Spain won and that Pau played well but yeah the whole thing was pretty anti-climactic. The game of the tourney was really well there were two Spain against Germany going up against Dirk and that new kid Schroeder who's really good and then Spain versus France. So it really peaked in the semi finals. It was kind a like how the spurs/clippers met in the first round but they were the best series of the playoffs last year (IMO anyway).

Anywho that was fun and help me maintain my basketball sanity. So now there's what two weeks until the NBA preseason starts? Hopefully I'll make it…

Too many ridiculous Pau haters in the Lakers Nation. Makes me sick to my stomach.

This guy shed all his blood sweat and tears for this organization.
Pau, Lamar, and Artest are the players I really miss not having on this team.

They should of all finished their careers in Los Angeles.

Words of wisdom.

I can believe some guys still have doubt about his HOF status, it's a sure thing, period.

boy, i agree with all that. way too much criticism for 3 amazing players. pau is one of the best bigmen ever, on duncan's level IMO. Lamar has always been to me a very unique player who found a very hard to find perfect role on the championship teams (which is specifically what he is built for). Artest might be a top 3 of all time perimeter defender (i can't even think of who is better...only pippen/rodman come to mind), who also was a pretty good offensive player.

Pau's probably my favorite person in the NBA, so I hope you are wrong about how many Laker fans dislike him. Always valued his quality, even when frustrated at times with him. Also, not on Duncan's level, and not close.

pau got criticized a whole lot for being soft or over the hill, take your pick. if you look at international play, duncan could not hang and pau has done spectacularly. duncan is overrated and pau is underrated.

I am guessing you never watched Thibs coach Pau, he used him horribly on offense.

If you meant in offensive sets, I think the Bulls utilized Pau much much better than the Lakers during the MDA period. The minutes were the problem, Thibs ran Pau to the ground during the regular season. Of course they had these injuries and Pau had to carry the team for stretches.

Somwhat OT - But who has had the better career and wound up the better overall player? Pau Gasol or Dirk? NBA wise, I could see the argument for Dirk, since he had 2-3 MVP Caliber seasons, 1 ring as a leader, but if you take all basketball competition into account (NBA, International) it's hard to argue against Pau. He may be the greatest Euro based player of all time, unless I'm forgetting someone. I am biased towards Pau, but I'd probably draft Pau ahead of Dirk, or rate him slightly higher.

Both the fans and the stats agree with the bolded.
Pau was voted in as an all star starter. And his PER jumped significantly last season. His play improved so much, before Pau got injured in the playoffs, CHI was up 2-1 against CLE.

Name the top Eastern conference "bigs". Now name the top ones in the west. Less competition for sure in the east.

Well, if you consider their Europe careers, I still see Drazen Petrovic and A. Sabonis ahead of both, Dirk and Pau.

But the Bulls won *at least one match* against every western conference team...

For me Drazen was the best Euro player ever.
His work ethic was Kobe-like and his winning mentality was infinite.
I cannot forget him playing against the Dream Team to WIN!
Those 3 straitght 3 pts on a 9-0 neasly caused Daily to call for a timeout

He had no fear, would play MJ as just anyone else. Trashtalked everyone in 4 languages (says Reggie Miller)

He died young, in this prime, otherwise we'd be all calling him the best ever.

Once the NBA goes even more global, I'm sure we're going to see some interesting specimens. One of these countries is going to put out a player that is going to put in way more time than any current american is going to do, i feel. Like a russian or something. some russian in the snow is watching kobe/mj highlights right now and getting good at it, has nothing else to do. someone like that.
