Freaking loved this article. There's something endearing about (most) high school & low level college ball that I really enjoy. As cliche as it sounds, it's unfiltered basketball that is mostly uncorrupted by financial influence. Reading about one of the game's greatest coaches in that environment was amazing.
Yes, there is something special about lower tier hoops. I got a kick out of the story about the team winning its league but not finding out until the next day when they saw the standings. I also liked the image of Pops as a recruiter, trying to find kids who could play basketball and who could get into the school.

Pop was as poor as a church mouse then out of the AFA and lived in a dorm with his young family his first year. He drove the team bus and it's where fell in love with the Napa Valley and all thing vino. I loved how he attempted to incorporate his four on four practices into a game in an attempt to gain an advantage.
