Voynov voluntarily returns to Russia, officially closing the book on his Kings' tenure. The Mike Richards situation is still up in the air. A really rough year for the Kings after winning the Cup. Kings will have to make a big trade at the deadline since the team is a title contender, but will need to shore up some holes to win it.

Voynov leaving gives us room now to get someone on D.

Really tough to lose the 2nd best defensemen on the team for a few years. With that said though, I still think we are crammed on defense. We'll be fine. Use this money to pay Kopitar more since that's probably why he still hasn't signed an extension yet.

The Richards decision will be a bigger factor in helping us keep Kopitar. I'm sure the FO is going to see if Kopi continues to decline from last year before a decision is made. I'd still hope for another Dman to limit Doughty's minutes and in case Ehrhoff's injury woes continue.

The Defense is a big question mark. It's certainly much weaker as evident from last season unless some of the players step it up. Erhoff will need to show he's fully healthy and Martinez will have to show he's a good no. 2 puck-moving defenseman until Erhoff shows he can handle the responsibilities. They're still too left-handed dominant on defense as well. The Kings prefer a lefty-righty combo. McNabb will need to show consistency. The defense will be okay, but not the elite defense we've seen in years past unless some players really step up. Doughty logged too many minutes to cover all the defense's shortcomings. Can't have that again and be fresh for the potential playoff run. I'm hoping Forbort can prove he can finally make the team as well.

Kings look great this period.

Also, Kike Hernandez is at the game.

Well better now than never.

I'd rather see Kike at Dodger Stadium.

We're four games into the season and have scored three total goals...Gross. I know we've got new additions, but we've got start burying some chances here. At least the puck possession looks better tonight.

Yeah, nice to get that first one. Hopefully it will erase some of the obvious frustration and displeasure the guys are showing.

If there's one good thing about the Kings' early struggles, it's that tickets are pretty cheap. I'm going to be sitting a row behind the Kings bench. Only questions are will they let me bring my camera and what am I going to do with a Kings Yarmulke?

Great game today. Lot of effort and bounceback despite laughable penalty calls. 2 goals, 2 fights b2b. That Gaborik goal was a thing of beauty.

Couldn't really enjoy it that much because this jerk kept blocking my view by standing up all the time and cussing like a sailor.

But at least the guy in the middle saw I was wearing the same jersey and gave me a puck.

Hey, you're new and could use a nose-job.

And I tried to test out how strict they are with cameras. First bid with this sass machine didn't work but another gate (Figueroa side) let me in.

Bump.

While the Lakers are still working out the kinks, the Kings have won 7 consecutive games. That 2nd line is just a monster!

Fixed. I think the TLC line has established itself as the #1 line of this team right now.

Don't know what the hell Kopitar, Gabs, and Brown are doing right now. I know when he's himself, there's probably no more effective player than Kopitar with that dominant two-way game, but right now Jeff is the best player on the team. Absolutely love the guy, especially since they moved him to C in 2014. Seems like every player they put on his line comes to life. (Toffs, Pearson, King, Lucic). Dean has mentioned how he's the hardest working guy on the team also and challenged Doughty and Kopitar to meet his level of fitness and conditioning. Says a lot about how great your work ethic is when your GM challenges other elite players to meet the bar you've set.

The first few games of the season were bizarre, nice to see them right the ship.

I think they learned from last year that they don't want to try and play catch up in the standings by letting games get away early, also seems like they cleared the druggies off the team.

This 7-game run has been nice after that 0-3 start. Carter and Toffoli are just lethal together. A little concerned that Kopitar has slowed down since the Cup win of '14. Especially with a potential big contract looming. I'm not sure that it would be a smart business decision to give him something approaching a Toews-like deal considering where his play is. Dean already eschewed a smart business decision when he didn't use the compliance buyout on Richards 2 seasons ago when he had the chance. You can't let your heart outweigh what you see on the ice. I love Kopi, though, so I hope he can pick it up. Also appreciative of Brown's contributions over the years, and he's certainly a great captain, but there's no way he's a first-line player. He's not a top-six player.

I'm very encouraged with the way Quick is playing, though. He looks really focused. Perhaps he knows that the defense in front of him isn't as great as it once was and he is going to have to will us to some wins.

GKG!

Well, Kings' regular season struggles against Chicago continues. The Kings absolutely blew it in the third period. The days of booking it as a win when the Kings have a lead going into the third period are over. Kane just took over that period. Now they have to regroup for another tough game tomorrow against the Blues. Gotta get some points on the trip. Kings actually played okay in the game, but just a couple of great moves by Kane did them in.

That was a tough loss to end the road trip. Would have been nice to come home and go into Saturday's Hawks game on a W.

Anyway, on a positive note. I am really liking this new 3 on 3 overtime format. It makes for some a really exciting 5 minutes of hockey.

I agree. But the Lightning are rediscovering their talent and they have boatloads of them. Still a close game.

3 on 3 was beautiful tonight. What a way to cap off that comeback against Chicago. Kings really controlled play for 45-50 minutes tonight. Deserved those two points.

Nice to see Kopitar and Gaborik reconnecting with the magic we're accustom to.

Yep, gotta get them reinvigorated. Gaborik on pace for a 25 point season. That's not going to get it done. He's a guy who averages 3x that. Kopitar slumping at least has a silver lining in that it'll hurt his FA possibilities and possibly make him more affordable.
