Quote:
According to a New Orleans Pelicans press release, guard Tyreke Evans had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Tuesday and is out indefinitely. Though his doctors deemed the surgery a success, this marks the third time in the past 16 months that Evans has had the same procedure on the same troubled knee. He first underwent the surgery back in May of 2014 to clean out scar tissue, then had the same procedure just a year later in May of 2015. Following previous surgeries, his timetable for return has been approximately 6-8 weeks, but it’s unclear how long he’s expected to be sidelined after this most recent procedure. He played in 79 games for New Orleans last season and 72 the year before that. Now, however, it’s looking like he could possibly miss the first two months of the season or more.

Young would be a good stopgap for the Pellies. They have a new coach who believes in quick offense and have the best anchor in the game. A deal of Young for Pondexter (who is also recovering from knee surgery in May) would help balance both rosters.

Thoughts?

I have been trying to project Nick as a replacement for Tyreke in the offense of the Pelicans and find it very difficult to imagine him as a good fit for that role.

If the Pelicans viewed Nick as a reliable jump-shooter, I think he could be seen as a great help to that roster. But they don't need another guy who drives but launches bricks from downtown. They badly need someone to spread the floor, even with Tyreke healthy, and in that way Nick could work better for them with Jrue and Gordon than Tyreke.

I think Pelicans think highly of Pondexter. We'd have to give up a PG to them instead in a trade. Evans is their de facto PG. And we're not giving up DLO/Clarkson/Lou/or Huertas.

Does the proposed trade work per the CBA?

They brought in Sean Kilpatrick to see if he can fill the role of Mad Bomber from outside. They also signed Nate Robinson to put shots up.

I think that Tyreke is closer to Clarkson in style of play than he is to Young in style of play.

Lou and Huertas can't be traded until later in the season.

that is true. But I've read/heard that NOP had Tyreke slotted as lead guard handling the ball.

That makes sense because Holiday shoots a better percentage than Tyreke does on three pointers.

Yeah, and they're high on Pondexter.

Maybe they could trade someone else to Miami for Chalmers?

Chalmers/Cole reunion.

Pelicans claim guard Ish Smith off waivers

Quote:
The Pelicans will be dealing with injury issues to start the season, which means that players who aren't exactly household names will be getting plenty of minutes over the first month of the team's games.

Go ahead and add Ish Smith to that list, after he was claimed off of waivers by the Pelicans on Monday.

Tyreke Evans is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after undergoing knee surgery on his right knee, and Norris Cole could be out the first month of the season with a high ankle sprain.
