Roy Hibbert is doing as expected, let's not forget he was our plan D... for that he gets an A tonight.

They need to run a few plays through him. It's getting on my nerves when he fights for post position and they look him off every time.

He's obviously not a great back to the basket player but he's shown he can score on the inside and has also shown to be a willing passer. It's not like anyone else has been lighting it up consistently.

Feed the big dog every once in awhile!

they are feeding him once in a while. and even when they don't, Hibbert should fight for position in the post regardless - standing staring at his shoes won't do the team any good.

Mason told a story about how Roy had family in town for the last game and afterward they went to dinner with Julius, DLO and Clarkson. And that after dinner the youngsters went to Roy's room and they watched the Spurs game and talked basketball until 4 am.

Kudos to RH!
Roy is a great mentor and an asset to the Laker organization.

He also mentioned about how talented the 3 youngsters are and HOW THE FANS NEED TO SHOW SOME PATIENCE AND LET THEM DEVELOP.

Roy Hibbert is ranked #8 in blocked shots.

No other Laker is in the top-10 in any major statistical category.

I'd like to see Roy as a Laker next year. Roy is a very capable starting center on a contender as he has proven in the past. What the F.O. needs to do is build around the core next summer. A defensive minded wing would be a great addition as well as going after KD at the same time.

Roy Hibbert's old family stops by for a holiday visit

Quote:
The Thanksgiving weekend is nearly over, and the Los Angeles Lakers host the Indiana Pacers to close out the month of Novemeber. Roy Hibbert's old squad will pay him a visit in the second half of the Lakers' back-to-back, looking to shake off the dust Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum left them in Saturday night.

Indiana is 5th in the NBA in defensive rating (100.5 pts/100 poss) & 7th in pts allowed (98.2). The Warriors just scored 79 in the 1st half.

this shows how overrated Hibbert has been to Indy's defensive success.

People automatically think that having a shot blocker improves defense but there are so many other variables to take into account. Indiana had to slow down the pace with Hibbert and now they can run without worrying about him getting back on defense. They play at a faster pace but that doesn't mean they are any worse defensively.

I'd say Hibbert is good for spot minutes and anything more than that makes it a handicap. I hope he proves me wrong, but he's one of the least mobile players I've seen in the league. He has trouble finishing and players are able to predict his moves.

Stop trying to discredit Hibbert. He's our best defender. The problem is we have a coach that has no clue how to scheme around a shotblocking center and has us run the same routes and rotational responses without instilling any basics.

Hibbert is doing all he can. But we have a coach that has no clue how to teach a team how to defend as a team. Vogel knew how to do that. Hibbert kept that entire Pacers team a solid defensive team last year WITHOUT Paul George and George Hill. So his credentials speak for themselves as far as that goes.

They're all solid defenders and complimented each other very well.

The problem is Hibbert is on a team now that has no clue how to scheme to run plays towards him and help defense. That's more Scott's ineptness vs Vogel's intelligence more so than if Hibbert isn't a good defender. He very obviously is.

My thinking on Hibbert has been shifting over the course of the season. I still think having a player with his attributes, mainly a guy that can defend size and prevent the layup line, is an important ingredient for a roster. But he's essentially a specialist in today's NBA and you can't sink a big % of your cap on that, especially when you have more pressing holes.

I don't want Hibbert back next year.
My opinion of him is fluid, and I may change my mind by the end of the year.

But his inability to box out and grab a board in the same play is overshadowing his positives (rim protection, shooting from mid-range and the line, screen setting).
His transition defense is laughable and also struggles at rolling after the screen.
Unlike Randle, the effort is there on the roll. But he moves like he's stuck in mud.

I'm ok with Hibbert as a backup center at 8-10m max. Not enthused as a starting center in today's NBA.

Was saying when LA got him, I didn't think he fit in at all with what a team with JC/Russ/Kobe/Randle had. Some were so happy, but I thought Mitch clearly failed to bring in a quality big man.

What this team would look like with a big that could give them 15-20 points a night if left open or not schemed to stop, would be a huge difference, at least on O. It's our biggest weakness right now.
