He was just released by the 76ers new regime in order to bring in Elton Brand's veteran presence. Averaging 15ppg in the DLeague, a block per game although he blocked almost 3per in college. He has great length for a Center but is a 6'11 PF, can shoot and dribble a little too.
one of the most athletic looking dunks you'll see all year
3pt threat and can blow by a close-out and get all the way to the rim. it was a Small Forward closing out too.
jumper
I'd like him to be our 3rd power forward instead of Kelly. He has the potential to play a lot of minutes at Center in a few years too.
Time to develop some more guys. _________________ How can I get a copy of a Laker game played on Sunday, March 11, 2001 Sonics/Lakers? If you know PM me please

We are developing Upshaw and we could also sign Wood to the Defenders. Sounds like the FO is guaranteeing all contracts though. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
Wood cleared free agency waivers and will join the Delaware 87ers of the D-League, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.
Wood was released by the 76ers on Monday to make room for Elton Brand on the roster, and he'll now join the franchise's D-League affiliate. The UNLV product will be active for the D-League Showcase, which kicks of Wednesday night in Santa Cruz.
It appears that they are inclined to keep a vet rather than use the last roster spot as a testbed for young prospects (D-League players and cuts from other rosters).
I did like Wood before the draft, and seems like the Sixer fans liked him also but had a gut up front, same as us with Randle/Nance/Black.
Seems to be questions about his attitude/work ethic. Has all the tools to be a good player in the league _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' It actually amazes me that the Lakers aren't trying at all to refine the roster even just a tad. It's obvious there are some young core players worthy of all the minutes they can get and if that's the case they should be making a way for that...
Clarkson + Russell + Brown + Randle + Nance + Black = Primary Young Core
Lou Williams + Hibbert + Bass = Young Vets
Kobe Bryant = Retirement
Young + Huertas + Kelly + Sacre = Tradeable assets
Not to mention the fact we only have a roster of 14 and could add one more player. This team is missing an athletic Center who can defend and run the floor. IMO Hibbert is a good backup on this team.
If we let go of some of the fodder on this team, the young guns can get all the run and experience they need to get better THIS YEAR... That's where the focus should be.
Cant quite figure out the Lakers brass.....Christian Wood would be a great fit on this team > growing the core together.
Yup. I don't understand their logic either man. He could have grown a bit getting Kelly's minutes the past month. And as his body develops in the next couple years, he'll be able to get spot minutes at Center with his amazing length.
Even UNLV fans didn't like Wood that much and a lot of people constantly got very frustrated with him. He had his best game against Arizona when he looked like a lottery pick but then coasted for many of his other, less significant games.
Only really bright side was he wasn't expected to do much in his final year there and had a much better season than people expected.
I'm not opposed to the idea of getting him though.

I understand, the guy isn't a good basketball player. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Reminds me of Upshaw in a way. Seems like both guys believed they hype that they were NBA bound from an early age and figured they didn't have to work hard to get there. Only now that they haven't made it are they realizing what it really takes to make it. Hopefully it's a wakeup call for both and they get it together. Upshaw seems to be doing the right things. Haven't followed Wood closely so I don't know.
That said, his body looks to be filling out and some of his D-league highlights are pretty impressive. He's definitely a kid I'd like to bring to Summer league/training camp if possible. Imagine if we draft Ingram and put out a front court of Ingram/Wood/Upshaw. They could probably lineup and touch fingertips from one sideline to the other! _________________ “This goes far beyond paychecks”
The Sixers will re-sign first-year pro Christian Wood, whom they waived earlier this season to make room for Elton Brand, reports Shams Charania of The Vertical on Yahoo Sports (Twitter link). It’ll be a 10-day contract, a source tells Jake Fischer of SI Now (Twitter link). Philadelphia has kept an open roster spot in the wake of losing JaKarr Sampson because of a failed three-team trade at the deadline, so no corresponding move is necessary. Wood has been playing with Philly’s D-League affiliate since shortly after the Sixers cut him from the NBA roster in January.

I seriously doubt a move like this will even make a 1-game difference in the standings at the end of the year:

I put this here because I didn't want to start a new thread, but it is good to see that Allan Williams from UC Santa Barbara got a 10-day with the Suns. Undersized big man who is a bull in the china shop. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
