Yeah, nice deal for $10MM a year for 2 years. Now Utley can be an occasional starter at second base and be a bat we go to late in games if we need a pinch-hitter. Kike can be a super-utility guy and probably get some starts in CF vs. lefties if Joc struggles against them again this year. |

Kendrick was consistent and was the Dodgers' most clutch hitter last year so his signing is very welcomed from those standpoints.
His dWAR was curious however. Whenever I saw him, he seemed solid on defense, but the mysterious guys we don't see or know, who use some hidden black box system to rate plays without providing the day to day data, gave him a dWar of -1.1, 79th in the league and last among players who played more than thirteen games. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

I like Kendrick and think the Dodgers had to make a move at that position.
Utley? It is hard to play with a giant fork sticking out of your back, I am hoping the Dodgers are not counting on much from him. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Utley will platoon and serve as the main backup for 2B/3B and occasionally 1B.
I can see him playing around 60-80 games and get about 300 ABs
Based on what I have read this looks like the way the team will be with depth.
1B - AGon (backups Van Slyke & Utley)
2B - Kendrick (backups Utley & Kike)
SS - Seager (backup Kike)
3B - Turner (backup Utley & Kike)
RF - Puig (backup Ethier)
C - Pederson (backup Kike & Ethier)
LF - Crawford (backup Van Slyke, Ethier)
C - Grandal (backup Ellis) _________________ #11/08/16 America became GREAT again

Keeps him away from the Douchebacks at the very least. If only we could jettison Crawford. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

Only way we could do that is to pay pretty much all of his salary, in which case what's the point. He isn't great, but CC isn't totally useless either though. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.

A negative WAR tends to suggest otherwise. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

That doesn't make sense to the eye test either. That guy was as steady as they come at 2nd base. Our team defense jumped as a whole from the year prior and the 3 major changes were at SS/2nd/Center and I think Kendrick played a large role in it. |

It's funny how often these advanced metrics don't coincide with what you actually see when watching games. |

I was rooting for the Broncos because I thought that it would be a good omen for Kershaw. _________________ 1996-2016

The Yankees needed to have him get suspended 46 days to get another year of team control. So now they lose him for like 1/5th the season and get nothing for it, unless they get a bunch of games delayed or something weird like that. |

Good point, forgot about that (I think you meant games and not days, by the way). Now wish the league suspended him for 45 games. |

Yes, but they get a shutdown bullpen for 83% of the season, including the money games, and they really didn't give up much to get him. |

At least the Dodgers have found a consistency in ex-A's pitchers, like (bleep) clockwork they're back on the DL. |

In fairness to Dodger management, it's not like this player had a demonstrated injury history.
Seriously, they got lucky that he actually got through 2015, and for them to double down and give him the QO was a massive miscalculation. I know that the Dodgers have a ridiculously high payroll, but it was still a terrible use of funds and I said so at the time. |
