@Mike_Bresnahan

Byron on fan criticism, talk-radio hosts, columnists, etc: "They have no clue. To be honest, I’m a lot smarter than ALL of them when it comes to basketball."

I'm no Byron apologist, but he's not lying.

On the other hand, you can be the smartest guy in the world and still be a horrible teacher.

Of course he is. He's been a "pro" for nearly 30+ years.

Now, let's compare him to other coaches and I can't vouch for how "smart" he is compared to them.

Emphasis on the word "ALL" which he used. No way is he smarter than ALL of his critics including former NBA coaches and analysts.

He's not smarter than all the fans and critics. Time and again Scott's coaching has been broken down to be inept and archaic by people on LG and other places.

The smartest guy simply knows that he is; it's always the dumb ones that have to speak out about it.

The Lakers record would say he's lying.

Right. He's smarter than me at bball...he SHOULD be, he doesn't get a cookie for that. But not all of his critics are non-pros so that's just (yet another) silly, defensive statement from him.

The Lakers record would say he's a bad coach with an inexperienced roster. His actual statement is (mostly) correct. He is smarter than his critics (granted some of his critics are former players, and even that is debatable from individual to individual) when it comes to basketball.

His systems might have been smart 15-20 years ago, but the rules have changed and his systems no long work

I honestly don't think I've ever heard him demonstrate any kind of intelligence.

Intelligence is a funny thing...it's always relative. He's doing exactly what I assumed he was hired for...teaching these kids how to me professionals. He's building a culture and when the kids are ready they will bring in an X's and O's guy.

Mitch said as much during his exit interview. His job is pretty much dependent on what free agents do this summer. If durant comes he's gone, if we strike out he will be back to continue developing the kids. Seems pretty straight forward to me.
