Pretty much this list or something close to it. What's crazy to me is that OKC has arguably two top 5 guys and there is a good chance they're not getting out of the 2nd round. Really puts into perspective the mountain we have to climb.

Kawhi over Durant?

I vacillate between thinking Kawhi's already eclipsed Durant (based primarily on his performance advantages on the defensive side of the court) and thinking it's maybe too soon to consider that possibility ... regardless, 7 - 33 with 7 turnovers by Durant tonight is a (bleep) abomination. I didn't catch the game ... who was even guarding him? Does Dallas even have a SF on its roster?

Needless to say, tonight's was not a game to cement Durant's position in the Top 5. I know we've developed a cottage industry here in LA built around small, coordinated groups of individuals arguing that missed FGA and turnovers don't really matter at all ... but c'mon, man. It wouldn't surprise me to learn 1/2 of Oklahoma City is probably cool with Durant and/or Westbrook walking once their UFA windows open (albeit with some S&T remuneration). Seriously - how can they continue to (bleep) the bed with that much talent? The roster in Dallas is one step up from the one in Memphis right now ... OKC should be running them out of the gym.

I support your assessment.
One additional point is that Leonard also won an NBA championship, sort of outperforming Lebron and winning against him, whereas Durant failed.
Although Durant also performed well, I wouldn't say that Durant had a much worse team.

I'd say:

Curry
Lebron
Durant
Leonard

With no real 5th. After them, there is a group of players competing for the 5th spot.

That is a pretty good list.

I would keep the same top 4, but drop the flopping midget at #5 for Russell Westbrook. (iI edited this as I forgot Westbrook initially at 5 and listed Paul George, I would take Westbrook or George over CP3)

Absolutely astonishing to see the growth Leonard has shown. We really need one of our guys to turn out in a big way.

Actually, I think Lebron outperformed Leonard (or at least was just as good). Leonard was great -- 18-6-2 on 61% FG and 57% on threes. But Lebron was great too -- 28-8-4 on 57% and 52%.

I think the rest of the Heat weren't up to par, and the Spurs as a whole were better. The Spurs shot 53% (and 47% from 3s as a team).

I don't see this series as a significantly factor in how I evaluate Leonard and Durant.

In terms of starting a franchise, you obviously take Westbrook, but this season, I'd take Paul. Westbrook's decision making, risky gambles defensively, and inefficiency as a three point shooter makes him a less appealing player than CP3 for me. 20/4/10 with 2.1 steals and 2.6 turnovers on 58% TS, compared to 24/8/10 with 2.0 steals and 4.3 turnovers on 55% TS.

It's a close call, but I agree with you.

You'd have an exciting team with Westbrook but I think he's too inconsistent to be the top player on a ring team. I put him in the same category of Harden: They are both great players who will win games for you, but also go flat and lose too many games to be the engine of a championship team.

I agree very close but I still put CP3 over Westbrook by an inch. And it pains me because I despise CP3's smug personality and his flopping.
I think he just elevates his teammates into better players much more so than Westbrook. I also think you put CP3 on those Thunder teams they are better and probably would already have a championship but Westbrook on the Clippers would not make them a better team.

The top 3 are easy.

4 and 5 are debatable. For instance, if I was building a team, I'd probably take Anthony Davis over both Westbrook/Leonard.

My top 4 would be:

1. Lebron
2. Curry
3. Durant
4. Davis
5. ???

I'm still not really that big of believer in Kawhi Leonard. I think he's still just playing a role on a great team. But if you put Leonard on the Lakers, I think we'd still be lottery. If you put Lebron/Curry/Durant on the Lakers - you'd be in the playoffs.

Honorable Mentions: PG, Draymond and CP3

Westbrook isn't getting as much love on here as I expected but besides that I agree with the general consensus.

I've gained some respect for Westbrook over the last couple years. He can be a force of nature, even if he is a knucklehead. I agree with AV's analogy to Harden, though. I understand why some people disagree.

Westbrook has the intensity to be the best player in the league.

Dude gives zero f***s, that's part of what makes some players great. Love his fire.

Still, with that personality profile, you're more likely to end up with a JaVale McGee (he gives zero (bleep) because he lacks the intellectual curiosity necessary to play smart) or a Lance Stephenson (he gives zero (bleep) because he's got "fire") than you are a Russell Westbrook ...

Imagine Westbrook with Kawhi's demeanor and BBIQ / situational judgement ...

If Chris Paul had Westy's raw physical tools, he'd be the greatest point guard the game has ever seen. Other than being a little short, he's the epitome of your ideal prototypical "pure" point guard. I'm not sure if today's game still favors the floor general type, but he's the best I've ever seen in that particular role. Both guys rely on dominating the ball a little too much for my tastes.

At the end of the day, Paul almost never makes the wrong decision and Westy is a gambler. I have to take Paul.

after watching the Thunder-Spurs series I think Westbrook is top 5 and I'm not sure if Kawhi belongs in the top 5 anymore. Right now he isnt the kind of superstar who can step up and put up 35+ points when his team needs it.
