No Lebron or Durant. Which Free Agents are really worth Max Money? Can you name at least two? Remember we complained about Kobe making $24 million. Can we justify paying any of these free agents money in that ballpark?

Worth is relative. Lots of players shoring "deserve" a max will get offered one.

So you think these guys are worth Kobe money... but Kobe wasn't even worth Kobe money.

A small house on a small lot in Santa Monica isn't worth $3 million.

The summer market of 2016 isn't the same as the market of 2013

The Lakers need to be patient in their rebuild.

The biggest advantage the Lakers have over the rest of the league is that it's a premier franchise in Los Angeles, which makes it appealing to free agents.

If the Lakers try to compete with other teams by simply outbidding for free agents with $$$ they will more than likely be an average team.

In order for the Lakers to be exceptional, they need to leverage the cache of the Lakers and Los Angeles into lowball offers that turn free agents into valuable contracts. Of course this is very difficult to do. Most players are simply looking to max out their earnings.

The other way to gain value in contracts is to sign true Max-Level players. Lebron, Durant, Westbrook are all worth more than their contracts simply due the max contract cap.

If the Lakers are impatient in their FA signings and waste their money on borderline max contracts, they'll need to get lucky in many other respects to build a championship-team since the playing field is essentially level with respect to other franchises.

In my opinion, the free agents that are worth more than max contracts are:
2016
Durant
James

2017
Curry
Westbrook
Griffin
Hayward

In other words if the Lakers do not sign one of the above FA to a max-level contract they won't be utilizing their greatest advantage over the other 29 teams in league.

That is not to say that they cannot sign DeRozan OR Whiteside to a max deal this year since they have an abundance of space. However, they need to make sure they save enough cap space for at least 1 (preferably 2) of the above players to 'outvalue' the rest of the league.

Sadly, with the new cap they are worth that much. If you hop over to the free agent thread, many are arguing that we should pay BISMACK BIYOMBO the max. Which is just LOL.

I don't think those chumps are worth max money but they will get it anyway.

LeBron and Durant are max players.

only Lebron and Durant are worth the max this summer... But ofcourse if they want Derozan he will get the max too...

Next year full recruit mode for Westbrook...Summer of 2017 should be Westbrook or BUST

Imagine a Westbrook/Derozan backcourt... how dreamy! Or you go small and fast

Westbrook
Russell
Derozan
Ingram
Randle

I think if we want a chance to make playoffs, we go DeRozan and Horford or Whiteside.....

Im basing this off the thought that Clarkson makes a huge leap this season and Randle and Russell make steady improvement.
