Jake Arrieta is getting rung up today. Cards have put up 4 runs in 5 innings. ERA lead is back with Clayton.

Much to my chagrin and not unexpectedly, Chicago is sitll blowing them out.

Look at the run support this guy has gotten: 9, 7, 6, 16!, 7, 7, 5, 8, 7. Today Cubs have hung 9 on the Cards. That's obscene. They're scoring 8.1 runs a game for him. Laughable.

Clayton's run support?: 15, 3, 7, 2, 6, 1, 6, 5, 5, 1. 5.1 a game.

Let's toss out the outlier 16 run and 15 run games for each. Arrieta has 7.2 runs each game he starts. Clayton gets 4 runs a game. Must be nice...

And, in 1 of those games, he provided his own run support.

Can you imagine Clayton talking to every new pitcher that arrives?

"Hey, you're probably going to need to go 9 and drive in your own runs to get wins".

Trayce Thompson in 100 AB's. 7 Hr's, 19 Rbis'. Typical full season is around 600 AB's. Someone tell me why Carl Crawford even sniffs the field again?

He costs too much and is an ex-Ray.

Glad Trayce is balling. Can you imagine if he wasn't on the roster?

Kershaw's final numbers have to be comfortably better than Arrieta's for him to win the Cy Young. It's an individual award, but we all saw how narrative clearly played a role in Dickey getting the accolade. Kershaw fatigue and Arrieta playing for the Cubs are two things that Kersh has no control over, but they're definitely working against him.

Kershaw's consistency is outstanding

Consider these names: Chris Archer, Sonny Gray, Matt Harvey, Dallas Keuchel, David Price, Wainwright, Wacha, Greinke, Scherzer, Cole (a lot better recently). All of these guys were aces last year or near aces. All of them are horrible (Cole has been a lot better).

Tidbits:

The two additions to the Giants this year:

Cueto: 7-1, 2.38 (8th)
Samardziga: 7.2, 2.54 (9th)

The two additions to the Dodgers this year:

Maeda: 3-3, 3.29 (24th)
Kazmir: 4-3, 4.84 (44th)

(Oh, and then there is that Greinke guy who left)

Another even year WS win likely for them while our FO twiddle their thumbs over their spreadsheets.

Fixed.

And I hope Urias is ready. Even Kershaw had a 4.26 ERA in his first year.

It's still a bit early to start crowning champions, no?

In any event, they're not getting lucky again. I refuse to believe they'll bs their way into yet another championship.

Well, they're in a bit better position so far than we are. I don't want to see it happen either.

Starting! Awesome! I do hope this is MLB televised. It is in NY so it might be.

It, for a while anyway, could be:

Kersh
Urias
Ryu (two starts away)
Maeda
Kazmir

Has there been a rotation that's predominantly left-handed before?

They are...but considering half our rotation is on the DL (I know Anderson and McCarthy aren't huge names, but they are definitely solid) and the fact our offense hasn't gotten going yet, it's not the end of the world...yet.

With McCarthy and Anderson, they'll likely be permanently on DL.

I'm going to have to go to this local place that has the Dodger channel to watch the game tomorrow for sure. It will be interesting to see how the Dodgers handle Urias moving forward.

Not sure how cable works, exactly, down in SoCal, but I would expect most providers would offer MLB Network as part of many packages. Regardless, the Dodgers and Mets game tonight is one of the games scheduled, which should mean the game that will be shown in SoCal. 4:00 PST. Enjoy.

It's blacked out in SoCal.
