Likewise Magic has been toeing the right line too. He didn't rip the Lakers (and Jim in particular) when they fired Byron and he applauded Luke's hiring. He even publicly stated he's going to work with Russell.
After suffering through three years of bickering, losing and uncertainty you can see the ducks starting to line up. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |

I know. I wonder what finally triggered it in Jeanie's head?
Magic for that matter too.

That was a great setup and no jab at Jimbo? The Buss kids showing signs of growing up. |

The deadline/timeline thing was always over exaggerated. Jim Buss had his Dan Gilbert moment. It's time to move on. Team owners are not impervious to saying sporadic things. |

Wouldn't her saying yes be considered tampering if Phil were in fact coming? I'll just wait and see. |

Whatever Jeanie. Let's see if you can go a full year without mentioning the "deadline". |

Phil has been somewhat disappointing but not a disaster from my POV.
I had fairly low expectations for him and his performance so far is roughly in line with my expectations.
I understand the usage of disaster based upon his salary and/or the belief that his history as a coach would be a predictor for success/failure as a team president. |

Lakers co-owner Jeanie Buss was our guest, in studio, on ESPN radio this morning. I asked if her fiancé, and Knicks president, Phil Jackson would ever join her back in LA.
"No," Buss said, "To visit, yes..but in terms of basketball, he's committed to New York for many years. He's building something there. He has a mission, he's on that journey to get the team back to where he believes it can be and it will be. He's a former Knick...he loves New York, he loves the fans, he wants to make them proud. In terms of the Lakers, we have a front office. They're putting together a team...they have a vision. I'm excited to see what the future holds for us. So, to answer your question....no, there's no plans for Phil to come back here."
I'm guessing that won't stop people from bringing it up, though. We love to beat dead horses here (see Okafor trade proposals). Lakers aren't selling the team nor are they letting Phil get his hands on the team. Jeanie is on board for the vision the team has. |
Yea I heard it on ESPN NY this morning _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

Was thinking about this, too. The optimist in me was thinking that the organization heard something from a big name free agent. That would certainly make you change your tune a bit.
The pessimist says there was fan backlash and this is just lip service. |

Either she has warmed to Jim or cooled to Phil.
I am curious to read between the lines of her next comment. She's like a human mood ring. |

It's neither IMO. She's just sitting in the cut waiting to see what they do. There hasn't really been any fan backlash against her except on his board. |

Jeanie is active on social media and very well aware of what the fans are saying. Surely she knows by now many fans have bashed her for mentioning the "deadline" in every interview, deducing she's trying to shape a circumstance that would allow Phil to come back.
This is her way of launching preemptive damage control, so in the event Phil does come back, she can claim innocence. She doesn't want to be perceived as having pushed Jim and Mitch out - especially when it would be the truth. |

Phil is committed to New York for a good 3-4 years. He'll be like 75 years old after that. Assuming health problems don't crop up and we still don't have a championship on our hands, I'm sure we'll hear rumors of him returning here, though chances are he remains in New York for the rest of his life. |

I cant see how she can say anything different. He is under contract in NY and Jim/Mitch are still running the show in LA. There's no way to she can even mention desire of bringing Phil back to the Lakers. |

Jeanie just isn't going to get caught tampering. She still wants her brother out.
Also from that same interview:
Quote: | “We talked about it as a family,” Buss said. “My brother spoke about it publicly. It is something that I think he’s very sincere in when he says that if he can’t get this team to where we’re competitive, being in the playoffs, second round, competing for the Western Conference Final.
“He would feel that he isn’t living up to the job that my father left to him, and he [Jim] made it clear if he couldn’t do the job that he would step aside and make sure that somebody would come in and do that because that’s how much he loves the Lakers. That’s how much my family loves the Lakers.” |

The pathetic part is they're both in their mid-50's. |
