We know Kupchak mentioned upgrading the front court. Anderson is available and is a great shooter who is a prototypical forward in Walton's pace and space offense. Why isn't he mentioned as a top free agent target? I know his rebounding numbers are somewhat low at 6 per game, but Randle makes up for that. Add Biyombo or Whiteside and you have a solid team. And that doesn't even take into account the #2 pick |

Anderson IMO would be considered a specialists. I think he is an obtainable target for the Lakers and we should look to add him to the roster to bolster the bench and give us a solid Vet with a great locker room presence and the ability to come off the bench and contribute...
He'd be a great addition IMO, much better than Ryan Kelly!

Anderson is a good player with success playing Stretch 4, especially with Dwight as a teammate. Since his Magic days, he has missed a lot of games with back problems. In addition, his most recent contract was for $8.5 million so I expect he is look for $10-$13 million with the salary cap increasing.
For that price, I would rather give Ryan Kelly another shot. I think provided the same amount of minutes, Ryan Kelly can produce almost as much as Ryan Anderson for a quarter or third of the cost.
Kelly's best year was with Mike D'antoni in 2013-14. He had 24 games where he played over 24 minutes and averaged 12.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1 block, and 0.9 steals. He had 19 games where he played over 28 minutes and averaged 15.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals.
In comparison, Ryan Anderson averaged 30 minutes last season and averaged 17 points, 6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.4 blocks, 0.6 steals. |
