Really happy for Doughty, overdue in my opinion but I am biased. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

True, and I admire Dean Lombardi for trying to go for it the last couple of years, but he greatly deviated from their original philosophy. He wanted the team to model the Detroit Red Wings, but the moves he's made the last couple of seasons due to certain circumstances have hamstrung the team. In the salary cap era, he needs to constantly develop NHL-ready made caliber players to fill holes. There are a ton of long-term contracts on the team that will be an issue as the roster ages. Losing Lucic will hurt a bit, but being hamstrung with a too long contract will hurt even more. As it is, they still have too many long contracts. He's really gonna have to do some maneuvering to get under. |

I wonder if we might have interest in Kyle Okposo, late of the Islanders. He's 28 so he's in his prime, and although he's only 6'0, he's a sturdy 215 pounds, and that should fit in with what the Kings like to do. As a right-handed shot, perhaps you could put him on a line with Kopitar and Gaborik, and reunite That 70's Line. Or maybe you put Kopitar with Gaborik and Toffoli and try Carter with Pearson and Okposo.
If we choose to spend on a defenseman, I just wonder what that means for our forward group. Lots of things for Dean to consider. |

That'd be sweet though have to see what his price will be, and I imagine it'd be pretty high. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

It's interesting that I noticed this blurb on Okposo tonight on ProHockeyRumors, a site that just launched (as a sister site to the popular MLBTradeRumors), and the Kings are mentioned as a possible fit...

A good fit on the ice but may not be a good fit financially. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

Kopitar is regarded around the league as a superior player to Stamkos, that's why. Perhaps not to the media, but that's not really relevant. |

True. Though that said, Gaborik's+Brown's cap hit is more than Stamkos who basically outscored both despite injury. I hope those two can bounce back because otherwise, those are two fat albatrosses on this payroll. |
Yep, those contracts are killing us, especially Brown's. |

And they are about to replace Hall with Lucic. But yes, absolutely horrible trade. |

The last of the Warrior LA defensemen that they've had is now gone. Scuderi is a shell of his former self, but him, Greene, Mitchell, and despite his poor statistics, Regehr were all warriors for the team. I don't see any of the younger stay-at-home defensemen matching that mentality... yet. Another bad contract for Lombardi. After rebuilding the team from the ground up, he sure has been burned on a lot of these contracts lately. |

The Kings have signed 2 D men that I have literally never heard of. Granted, I don't know all the NHL players like I do MLB and NBA pretty much, but still...never heard of them. |

Tom Gilbert is a good possession D-man and right shooting one too. He won't rack up the points like he did early in his career but he's a mobile yet stay-at-home defender that complements a good scoring D-Man (like Doughty). Questionmarks are age and injury history. Low risk, moderate reward gamble.
Zach Trotman is a similar one. RHD with a booming shot and decent possession numbers. Younger but still has injury history. He paired well with Zdeno Chara as the top pairing. Might be someone to work with Doughty to allow Drew to be more aggressive on offense. Like Gilbert, he had a down year and I'm guessing Lombardi is sensing comeback season on the cheap.
We also got a backup in Jeff Zatkoff, who is a solid youngster and actually a former pick who spent time as backup in Pittsburgh but was shoved out by pricey Fleury and youngster Murray. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

Vegas is not a fan of our offseason at all. The Kings were 10 to 1 to win the Stanley Cup 2 weeks ago and only 4 teams had better odds than we did. Now we are 18 to 1 and 8 teams are ahead of us.
Looks like we went bargain shopping. Maybe this team just needs to not take a dump at the end of the season and we'll be OK. But our cap situation is giving us problems. |
