Why? He has nothing to gain by staying. He has the scoring titles, the MVP, and led a team to the finals. He's playing for his legacy. Does he want to be remembered like KG in Minnesota or Dirk in Dallas? Or like Shaq in LA? He had arguably the best season of his career last year. It was overshadowed by GSW and Kobe's retirement. Yup ..... people keep playing the extra 1 year max money.
What does KD want? Does he want to be a LEGEND? Or Does he want the extra $50-60M in a max deal? |
There are very few people that would leave 50 - 60m dollars on the table.
Even if you already have a billion dollars... 50-60m is still a massive 5 - 6 pct of that.
It's such an insane amount of money only someone who is so enlightened about life would turn down such money (Chappelle).
Even Buddha wouldn't turn down 50-60m. |
Understand what you are saying but the potential to recoup more via endorsements etc in a city like Los Angeles can be worth easily $50-60m but more likely $100m+ if he's able to win.

I am agnostic on this issue but a lot of people think that in this socia media age you don't need to live in a big city to get paid as evidenced by LeBron / Durant already in their small markets. |
