Pretty much. I'd like to bring him back, but not if a team is going to pay him quite a bit.

Huartas is one of those players I call a "glue guy"

He wont cost much

It wont prevent us from bringing in talented vet players

Consider this......I consider him to pretty much be a floor general....you can just see he is thinking faster then others are on the court when he plays. Does he have limitations? yes....if you put a rim protector and quality slasher's around him when he is on the court....he would be really good at distributing the ball.

As a reserve of course

Keep him unless you find someone better. It might be a good idea to pick up Austin Rivers from the Clipps just to mess with Coach Rivers' mind but Huertas helps team chemistry and that's important too.

Thought he was brilliant in that game vs GSW. Hope they keep him, great stabilizer off the bench.

Same as most here......good 3rd string PG that can be utilized in the new system when needed. Will probably get a big raise as we need to get to the cap floor. Also need his maturity.

I like him too, but if we end up needing to overpay a player or two on a 1 year deal to hit the cap floor (I hope we do frankly, barring Durant coming), why not look at Barbosa? Knows Luke's system, can obviously still get a bucket or two & has played a lot of PG.

No team needs to hit the cap floor. Not doing so is covered by the CBA.

Ben Simmons said that Huertas is his favorite player to watch in the NBA. No joke.

Well, he was the Steph Curry Killer. Granted Curry was tired and hung over from the night before and from spending three days in LA. But that's besides the point. Based on one game and one game only...

Good post, welcome to the board!

I like how Huertas moves the ball, no doubt he sparked the offense off the bench numerous times last year. He needs to work on his 3 ball stroke and he could be a real asset on the cheap.

That's great, maybe Ben can help us trade him to Philly in return for our First Round Pick...

Let's look at Luke's check list regarding players and in this case Huertas.

Is he long? No
Can he guard multiple positions? No
Can he shoot? No
Does he provide veteran leadership? No

I think that's that unless they need a real cheap 3rd string point.

Luke (as a player) wouldn't make his own checklist. And yet, a coach like Phil found a place on the team for a "glue guy" like Luke. Not every player needs to be an athletic freak. If Luke knows anything, it's that there's always a place on the team for an unselfish catalyst who makes his teammates by running the offense seamlessly.

As the 15th man and third point guard, I could live with Huertas. He played some good ball down the stretch last season.

Pass first PG? He needs to be that. His "Jump shot" is terrible.

Guy is an 8th man at best. Whether he stays or goes, it doesn't really matter.

Ever since the days of Janero Pargo in 2003, fans have always been giddy over Point Guards that are average (at best) that play for us.

I think it is a no brainer to bring Frodo back. When he got the chance, he even made Byron's offense look somewhat good.

DLO was actually better on D than I thought he would be as a rookie, so he might end up being a push on D next season, but Frodo, Lou and Clarkson are all terrible defenders.

We are gonna give a ton of points next season, but hopefully an actual defensive system that consists of more than just manning up will help.

Also, if Luke can somehow convince JC to play D that would be a plus. JC has the tools to be a very good defender.

Feel like he could be a stud.

Seriously, his passing wreaked havoc last year. If his teammates receive his ball and move with it, not just ISO, he could lead a high-energy unit off the bench nobody wants to face.

Would prefer someone who can defend and hit a 3 from time to time as the primary backup. But as a third string vet min guy, why not.

This. Mario gave us a few highlights that made us smile during a miserable season but the guy can't shoot and is an awful defender.

Unlike when he passes, because he will frequently get caught trying to pass while caught in mid-air. That gets really predictable after a while.

Honestly, I'd rather get Farmar back than have Huertas as our only backup point.

No love for the Brazilian Magic Johnson?

I am tempted to youtube some game video from this past season but am too lazy.

Well, yes, but if you can sign a guy for peanuts, you can afford him, his minutes don't affect team chemistry, and he is good or great in limited spurts, even in specific situations - all things which I think are perfectly reasonable to believe - he's worth signing.

His salary is just over $1M this year. Depending on free agent signings he would be a solid 3rd PG.

I actually think his value would be more in practice for the young guys.

Although not a good defender he works hard every time he hit the court. He also keeps the ball moving and understands passing angles and concepts.
