Funny how Carmelo is the old man on the team now. Basketball folks have always said his game is better suited for international play.

He may not win a NBA Championship, but he'll have more gold medals than LeBron, Wade, Bosh, etc.

Agreed, i wonder though if Melo would have as much medal if he had deep playoff runs year after year..

Starting with Rio Olympics, USA Basketball may never look the same

Quote:
The list of elite, young, American-born talent in today's NBA runs as deep as it has at any point in basketball history. With the Rio Olympics due to start in a few weeks, that avalanche of talent could have given USA Basketball its deepest, most versatile and maybe even best roster of all time.

Nice! I'm gonna try to catch this!

I am also glad the roster is set and DLO wasn't included on the official team. I don't want any of our players anywhere near Rio

I would expect them to have Klay and Green on the floor together and Lowry and Derozan on the floor together. I guess they could have Barnes with the other W's, but he should be the 12th man, so no. I'd have Kyrie, Klay, KD, Green, and Cousins start.

Did anybody hear Coach K jokingly tell Kyrie "F*ck you" during the USA Basketball practice? I saw the previously recorded version of the practice and it still had him on there saying that when he was mic'd up lol

The game against Argentina yesterday was so hellaciously boring. if it's going to be like that against all their competition except France and Spain it's going to be a boring summer. Lol

That said I'd still go see their exposition game what is it on the 26th in Oakland? But I will likely be working still…

Durant leads way as U.S. rolls in exhibition opener

Fast start, finish highlight Americans' 111-74 win over Argentina

Quote:
Kevin Durant scored 23 points, DeMarcus Cousins had 14 points and 15 rebounds, and Paul George added 18 off the bench as USA Basketball began its 2016 Olympic gold medal quest with a 111-74 exhibition victory over Argentina Friday night at T-Mobile Arena.
Playing together after just four days of practice, Team USA's greater challenges came more from communication and teamwork, less from the skill level of the Argentinians. But the NBA stars kept their turnovers to a reasonable number while pushing Argentina's attempts to the perimeter.

Yes, here you have a good memory. This was regarded as a Duncan failure in some part at the time with the young guys sort of not up to snuff then also.

I've seen it viewed both way.

Some people consider it a Duncan personal failure and like to mock him for only having a bronze.

Some consider Duncan a victim of a shoddy system that put together a bad team around him and didn't have practices.

You'll have no end of opinions on this -- some believe Duncan was exposed; some believe he hated the rules in place in 2004 (which were revised significantly for the next Olympics); some believe he himself played well, but was surrounded by a bad team of young players after other stars declined to take part; some feel he was the leader of the team and should take full blame for the disaster.

After the debacle, there was so much mea culpa-ing, and the whole system was changed so much, that it was conceded that things were bad from A to Z, so you'll never get uniform opinion on how much blame Duncan personally deserves.
