If Political Correctness = Obama

I AGREE!

"Political Correctness" = Code for "please allow me to say racist xenophobic bigoted comments! And if you call me out on it, you're being too politically correct!"

Yup. Now these (bleep) have an alibi.

My list, and in no particular order.

Xenophobia
Intolerance
The Religious Right
Income gap and the disappearance of "The Middle Class"
The lack of intellectual honesty when it comes to reasonable gun regulations
An inherent distrust of the political system
Big banking and Wall Street
The state of our educational system being ignored
The growing reliance on the Industrial Prison System
A completely fractured sense of National unity.

Intolerance of the religious right?

I agree with most of your list. I do think though, that some of the things, like your first and last items, are sadly interdependent. That is, if you eliminate xenophobia, the unfortunate consequence will be an elimination of national unity.

2. Police brutality - It seems to get a lot more publicity in America than other countries. Is it because police are worse, or is it linked to the gun control issues, or maybe even media coverage making it more public than other countries might when they have incidents.

Neither of these are among the biggest issues. Mass murder and murder in general are not at all time highs. Police brutality is a problem, but not as big as other issues even among minorities.

Every resident of a non-US country that I've talked to believes that America has a problem with gun control (or lack thereof). Unsurprisingly, many Americans that I speak with do not believe there is any problem with guns in the US (I felt the same way until recently). I guess when a shooting at your local walmart is commonplace in America, yet the same occurrence is almost unfathomable in places like Canada, you begin to question whether our society's "normal" should be accepted as a standard of living in the modern world.

Here's just one article highlighting the ridiculously disproportional rates of gun violence in America vs. other developed nations: Link

Well, I don't live in Uganda, so does that make me an expert on their problems? Ha.

But really, it's not gun control that is the problem. Gun control is a band aid. The problem is our cultural obsession with firearms. There are first world countries with high gun ownership rates, with low homicide by firearm rates.

So gun control will help a little, just like the illegalization of marijuana has curbed weed use a little. Imagine how much more rampant it would be if..... yeah

Right. There is no gender anymore. Thus, no gender wage gap!

I think Alcoholism isn't being talked about as much as it should. It's a huge problem in this country and it leads to a lot of other things.

(1) is not even a Top 100 problem in the country if you measure it based on lives affected. Christian extremism as a whole negatively affects more people if anything.

(2) and (5) can probably be bucketed with (3)...which is definitely a Top 5 problem.

(4) is not a problem meriting any serious discussion.

Christian extremism?

Christian extremism is laughable, when compared to Islamic normalism.

Being beaten by the cops is laughable when being compared to being killed by the cops...
