10 years following the NBA I'm not sure I've ever seen this happen before, this is NFL like levels of banning players. Anyone else help me out here? Any one else been banned to this level?
Jesus what a fall from grace, this dude was supposed to be the second coming, I hope he's alright.
Well, believe it or not, Roy Tarpley made a return with the Mavs in 1995 after being out forever. Then he got banned again. It was weird to see him back in the league in any respect. I think it's because Stern felt bad (according to him) that they IP-banned Michael Ray Richardson. It wasn't a good idea to be on that stuff after Bias died. That's when the NBA started to intrude into players' private lives. Before that there were numerous incidents where hard drugs were involved, one guy on the Jazz died in a road accident in the 70s with coke in his system. Bernard King was a druggie in those days, had at least one arrest. Lakers kicked that idiot Spencer Haywood off the team after he passed out in a practice during the 80s playoffs, a championship drive. Andrew Wiggins' dad was banned for drugs (Mitchell Wiggins his name). _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
Remember LO was one strike away from being banned from the NBA...he got himself clean while playing for Miami and the Lakers...too bad it looks like he's off the wagon now that he's gone from the league.

Another guy who was at one point almost lost was Lloyd Daniels. He was one of Tark's questionable signees at UNLV and iirc, he didn't play a minute before he got arrested inside a crack house, with footage of him being taken to the car in cuffs while wearing a UNLV sweater. I recall he got a break with the Spurs because Tark briefly coached them in the 92/3 season and was taken over by John Lucas who had experience himself with personal demons. Then we picked up Lloyd when the entire 95 Laker team was crumbling in injury. I remember a great game at the Forum, I think against Indy, where he hit a freak shot in the final seconds. Wonder what happened to him after that year. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

Chris Birdman Anderson in 2006.
Mayo tested positive for a drug of abuse, and I don't think marijuana can net this type of punishment, so it had to be something harder.
How often and what kind of drugs do you have to do to get banned from the NBA for 2 years?
I know right. Birdman was a junkie on herion and tied to a child porn ring and even that only got him a 1 year suspension .
That second thing was phony. It was an extortion deal, iirc.
Yeah Birdman had a 17 yr old girl sending him naked pictures or something, and when he broke up with her she said he had them I think.
She said she was over 18, and when he refused to buy her everything on her Amazon wish list she went to the cops. He fought the charges and later got them dismissed/expunged right?

Yeah I believe so. I think the issue was that they had had sex, but she was 17 and the age of consent was 17 so it was legal for her and Birdman to be together. And maybe she did lie about her age saying she was older when they initially met. It was illegal for Birdman to have naked pictures of her and when he wouldn't buy her stuff, she turned him in. I don't think the prosecutors decided to go forward with the case though because the laws didn't make any sense in this case. Nobody was being abused. It was legal for them to have sex, but not legal for him to have naked pictures of her. In cases like that, I doubt anyone is prosecuted nor should they be.
Some states:
It's legal to marry when you are 16 or 17.
Age of consent is 16 or 17.
But federal laws say any naked pictures under 18 are against the law.

I just gave the Bias 30/30 a rewatch because of this thread. Tivo'd it a couple of days ago. You hear that 911 call by his coked out buddy and your reaction will pretty much be an SMH with a smirk of disgust. He was calling to save Bias' life and he could barely stay awake, didn't even know to tell the 911 operator where they were. Similar to the Prince call, he said, "It's Len Bias and you have to help him." Bias was probably already well on his way to death before the paramedics got there. They said he had no alcohol in his system, but unfortunately, the dealer liked Len so he decided to give Len's friend some high purity, uncut stuff. Bias wasn't as tolerant to coke as his more streetwise buddy. You get the sense that Bias did an amount that he was comfortable with not knowing how potent it was. Those kind of deaths visavis heroin are not that uncommon. The heroin Phillip Seymour Hoffman had was unusually potent they said. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
Bias would have been a star, I was in awe watching him lead Maryland. I had to agree with a couple of Celtic fan friends that this was a game changer in the balance of power between LA and Boston.
I still remember Bias' alleged last words: "I'm a bad mother(finder), and I can handle anything." Those last words are a lasting beacon to those wishing to experiment with drugs.
