My initial inclination is to say no trade. Wait. But I'm concerned about the FO acting in desperation.

Have they even made a single desperate move yet?

I'd try to trade for another star to entice Westbrook.

We could wait until JC is tradeable IIRC in December.
Presti would want D'Lo. He's on a cheap contract for many years.

And a reason why the lakers should wait for next year or trade other assets including future picks if they have to trade. Don't need JC and WB. Too much overkill for similar styled (though JC is not a contact player) player.
We should wait but the FO is unpredictable.

OKC likely wants DLO, not JC. They will ask for Ingram too. Be smart Lakers. Don't trade for Westbrook.

Yup. In that case no way.

I'd wait and see if something like JC/Randle/future picks are enough ( when JC is tradeable).

Folks... I don't know if you have heard but DURANT, CURRY, THOMPSON, GREEN, IGGY are all on the same team.

Like on one team not in NBA 2k.

You don't trade anyone younger than those guys at this point... You develop them. The west is on lockdown for 3-5 years.

Good thing no one here a general manager. They trade away Ingram and Russell for a team that get killed by the Warriors in the playoffs next 3-4 years.

GS has the west on lock. Why would we throw away assets for have zero shot at a title? makes no sense.

Pretty much. You bide your time and hope the young talent begins to emerge when GS is on the decline, before you go after the Westbrooks and other franchise-level talents.

With KD going to the Warriors Westbrook is all but gone. I would prefer to sign him outright as a FA but we've seen that 5th year come into play (though ironically KD/horford out).

Thoughts?

I don't see how a trade gets the Lakers anywhere. By the time they put together pieces for Westbrook they have gutted their future. And Westbrook with what is leftover isn't doing anything in regards to competing

Yup trade for Westbrook, and then got Boogie in here. Can't be sitting on our hands and watch other franchises get better. Th whole wait and rebuild like Sam Hinke route is a crap shoot.

I was pissed when I heard about Durant to GS.
But now that I'm thinking about it. I don't mind.
Now Curry will never get "best player ever" talk again. Since the roster is so stacked.
And Lebron won't win next year, that's for sure.

12 Laker fans are so far not thinking this through.

If the Lakers could get Lebron right now, they still would get swept. If they could get Lebron and Wade also joined at the minimum and Pau... they might win 2 games - doubtful. But they might.

Ugh on cousins. Keep Ingram.

Man what an opening for the Lakers. Maybe Russ says only team he wants is the Lakers.

Why would he say that?

I'd trade for him Absolutely if there were assurances he would resign with us.

Dangelo and Julius would be a great rebuilding block for OKC as well. But there is no way he could give us assurance he would resign so NO.

I agree with waiting till Westbrook is a free agent, if we trade away a package of DLO or Randle or JC you basically nullify drafting and teaching them without seeing how they develop together without Kobe and without injury, Westbrook I'm sure will have us on his list if we can somehow sneak into that 8th playoff seed, which I believe is possible under optimum conditions, plus with our core intact other free agents would find interest if Westbrook does, superstars will start to take interest as soon as we have a winning record

What makes you think we can compete with westbrook and a bunch of leftovers? And even if we were to make the trade DLO is probably the last or 2nd to last guy to be involved in any deal.

We have to bring a bonafide start to entice Westbrook but I think its possible... Demarcus Cousins is the guy I would try to get.

The Lakers do have the leverage in this situation.

1. Westbrook has 1 year left
2. Lakers have the cap space
3. Careless whispers into the ears of the Wasserman people
4. Westbrook family aka MOMMA WESTBROOK

Just swapping Dlo and Westrbook wouldnt make us contenders. If the Lakers want to win THIS YEAR. They need to get Cousins as well..

Westbrook
Clarkson
Deng
Randle
Cousins

This is a lineup that can contend, especially with the talent on the bench we have

You don't need Cousins.
