He deserves a classy send off but was never a big fan to be honest.

I won't miss your incredulous, bug-eyed reaction to every foul that was ever called against you in any playoff game against the Lakers but you are one of the greats, no doubt. Happy retirement.

This crowd gathering around the Spurs headquarters at the Alamo Dome to pay respects to Tim Duncan is insane.

I respect him. But I still hate the Spurs. Kind of happy he doesn't have a chance to win 6 titles. The record book will now show the shaq Kobe and pau Lakers the best team of the 2000

The Big Fundamental leaves the game the same way he played it for 19 years ... humble and with little fanfare ... that seems fitting for #21, one of the very best big men of all time. His two R/S MVPs, three NBA Finals MVPs, and five rings are some of the quietest individual and team accomplishments I've probably ever seen in 3+ decades of following basketball. It was time, though. His ability to impact games left the scene a season or two ago ...

He should've retired after winning that last title.

He's one of the greats, no doubt. That's the end of an era. I wonder when Parker, Ginobili and Poppovich are going to retire.

I still hate him, though

Farewell, one of the true greats. The game won't be the same with all the legends gone.

An all-time great. Crazy to think that the three standard bearers of the post-Jordan league -- Shaq, Kobe and Timmy -- are now all retired.

Wow, I'm a little surprised. I guess I shouldn't be, but - darn. Hoped for one more go at it. Sure appreciates Duncan's style and play, both as a fan of the game and as a fan of his team, second of course to being a fan of the Lakers.

What a stylistic contrast he is to Kobe, yet another time; the Laker goes out in a year-long retirement gauntlet on a wobbly team and the Spur steps aside after a deep playoff stumble, to disappear into the shadows with the barest murmur, already gone. I like that - a career contrast, from start to finish.

Thumbs up to two of the greatest of all time players who retired in the same year, and that's something that will probably rarely be seen again. Can't personally recall when two equals of this accomplishment went out together. Cheers for Kobe and Dunc, great competitors and maybe the most complete pair of same year retirees ever. Big and small, winners and team leaders, franchise icons. Can we as fans ever hope to see their likes again ? Hope so.
