Btw, Simmons said his favorite NBA player to watch is Huertas. It makes so much sense.
Thought you might be joking but no lie, he really said that. Lol
A 6'10 athletic Huertas is definitely not a bad thing though.
I was laughing when I read this and opened the link. But I actually saw some of Ben Simmons' moves in this vid (i.e. touch pass at 2:11 & 2:35, cross court pass at 3:25, pass around defender at 3:32). Interesting.

Great recap DB, man I bet that place was LOUD in the fourth quarter! GS v Spurs felt like such an afterthought, at least from what I could hear of the crowd through my TV set.
There's no way that Russell only had 1 assist. I counted like 5 in the last two quarters alone. Had to be closer 8 or 9.
My bad. Typo. Should have been 5.
He might have had just as many hockey assists, too.
Nah you recorded it correctly. NBA.com had him credited with only 1 assist as well. Stat guys were brutal to him lol. _________________ A key that has the ability to unlock many locks is a master key. But a lock that can be opened with any key is useless.
Philly Fan behind us (after Simmons gets an assist): The next Magic Johnson!!!!
Me: Magic Johnson?!?!?!? How about we wait until this dude scores double digits in a Summer League before calling him the next Magic Johnson? Magic was dropping 42 in the Finals as rookie. You remember who that was against?
Philly Fan: I...uhh..don't know. I wasn't born yet.
Me (looking at DB): You remember who that was against?
DB: *wants no part of the (bleep) talking, but clearly amused, sits silently*
Me: I'm pretty sure that was against Philly. In Philly. That's gotta hurt. "next Magic Johnson." Get the heck outta here.
Boston Fan: Hey, both of your teams aren't making the playoffs next year, and my Celtics are.
Me: Playoffs?!? Man, you guys have like 1 title in the last 30 years. I'm not tryna hear that.
Then I spent the rest of the game calling Simmons "Rondo" and "Ben Simmons Carter-Williams" loud enough so the Philly fan behind me could hear it. "Magic Johnson." PLEAAAASE.
Awesome writeup, DB! Just watched the game. Really sloppy defensively (bad on Russell's part especially); they got lucky with some missed shots. Nance was awesome all around. Russell was great on offense after the rough start. Enjoyed a lot.
Simmons is a real good passer. But he's basically a taller Rondo right now.

I swear they had him listed with only one earlier today when I looked lol. _________________ A key that has the ability to unlock many locks is a master key. But a lock that can be opened with any key is useless.
Tox - Yeah, I see Big Rondo a lot in him right now, which is actually a really intriguing player. With that length around the rim...once he starts to use it more, that could be pretty sick. The defensive rules, though, for him right now are very much like Rondo -- sag off, pack the paint, dare him/beg him to shoot. It's so in his head right now that it could be a big problem like it was for Rondo. You just don't know, but his desire not to shoot is pretty severe.
The real problem with a Big Rondo role for them is unlike having a guard backing off and packing the paint on D, it's a bigman. It's even worse when you consider throwing Okafor on the floor with him.
Philly has the philosophy of any shot from him is a good shot right now. He's got to work his way out of that potential as Big Rondo to really be what he can be.

You can really see that he has court vision and great quickness and speed. It looks like it may take a bit for him to get comfortable but he is a guy who will make others around him better. Right now he seems hesitant to focus on scoring (he may be the only guy in the summer league who is) but that will change at some point.
Like Ingram you can see he is going to be a real good player and unlike Ingram he is physically from a size, speed and quickness perspective NBA ready right now.
Love the way this team seems to be playing for each other and being accountable for their mistakes. Just waiting for the first lost to bring me back to Earth.
