Tom Brady helps Celtics lure Kevin Durant to Boston
Tom Brady consistently helps Boston’s NFL team by taking less money. Now, he’s trying to help Boston’s NBA team land a star player who’ll make a lot more than Brady does, even if the player takes less than he could get.
Via multiple reports, Brady has joined Celtics execs in (where else?) the Hamptons to help make the pitch aimed at luring Kevin Durant.
The Boston Globe quotes an unnamed source who says that Brady is Durant’s “favorite athlete.”
Multiple Celtics players also were part of the effort, which is far more relevant to Durant’s potential future in Massachusetts given that he’ll be, you know, working directly with those guys.
For now, the sole goal is to get Durant to put his signature on a contract — especially if his favorite athlete can convince Durant to do what Brady has consistently done, taking less than he could with the understanding that the team then will have more to sign other quality players. |

For the same reasons I don't like Michael Jordan, LeBron James and many others...
Because I can
Although I'm amused Brady couldn't get Durant to go to Boston |

I wonder if Tom asked Durant what would be the advantage of playing with an under-inflated basketball(?) _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” |

Quote: | Kevin Durant says he nearly committed to Celtics because of Tom Brady
Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck said Boston, not the Thunder, were runner-up to the Warriors for Kevin Durant.
Maybe Grousbeck wasn’t just blowing hot air.
The Celtics brought Tom Brady to their meeting, and the New England Patriots quarterback apparently made a big impression.
Durant, via Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald:
“I was ready to just say, ‘All right. Let’s go. I’m ready to go,’ seeing Tom Brady there,” Durant said. “Just seeing someone so successful at his craft and just a great ambassador for the game of football and the city of Boston, it was just great to be in the presence of greatness.
“But at the same time, I knew I couldn’t let that distract me. But he was great. It was great to see him.”
If you’re a Thunder fan, here’s the narrative: See, this proves Durant is impulsive.
If you’re not a Thunder fan, here’s the narrative: This proves Durant made a rational decision after months of considering Golden State, because he didn’t overreact to the Brady show.
Or maybe Durant was just harmlessly complimenting another superstar. |
