1. But then he is supported and encouraged by the young core and eventually makes a triumphant return at the Staples Center??? possibly

2. Will Larry Nance, in a strange twist of fate be wrongfully accused of assault during a road game in Denver only to be rescued by no other than Kobe Bryant, who completed law school, passed the bar and became one of the most skilled defense attorneys over the summer?? duh.

3. Will Brandon Ingram, who was reported to still be growing, grow??? yes

4. Will Nick Young and Lou Williams finally be voted off the island??? maybe

In need of Lakers material to help pass the off-season?

CBS Sports has ranked the NBA's starting line-ups and benches.

You're welcome.

- Will Randle finally develop a jump shot?

- Can Calderon become one of the best back up PGs in the NBA?

1. How well does Randle adjust to the new system? Will Ingram in affect, outplay Him, earn the SF spot and then Deng slides over to become the starting PF? I think Ingram can do it and makes us more balanced on the floor.

If this happens, who is the back up for the three position? We are little thin there.

Deng could still slide back there and play in between the 4/3. Which will probably happen anyway

The only way the Lakers will have a legit chance at keeping the pick is if they're as awful next season as they were this season, which, regardless of what the consensus opinion is, I don't believe will happen for a second. I can't imagine the Lakers being that terrible again next year unless they're victims of unusual circumstances (such as injuries). Byron wasn't a bad coach. In fact, he wasn't even a horrible coach. He was a uniquely horrible coach. He was as awful as it gets. I don't know if there will ever be another coach in the history of the league capable of putting that kind of product on the floor with the sincere effort of trying to win games.

There's just no way the team won't be able to win substantially more games playing in Luke's system and with him establishing this new culture. To think otherwise severely underrates how horrible Byron was. You can't be a bottom three team without a losing culture and an incompetent system. Everything from top to bottom has to be an utter train wreck to be that bad. We've seen that already. We've seen how much has to go wrong to be that awful. The only way they get there again is if they just decide to tank deliberately, which isn't happening.

Tanking is over with. They have their coach, so the only objective moving forward is to go up, not to stand still or become worse. As many young guys as they already have who are developing, to continue adding more year after year and waiting for them to develop as well is just self-defeating. You can't keep adding new young guys and waiting years and years for them to fill out. To keep going that stupid route every single year makes no sense unless you're aiming to be competitive by the year 2025. At some point it has to stop and you have to actually start trying to win.

The Lakers have enough young talent with sky-high potential to build around. From here on out it's about adding established talent while the young guys you already have continue to grow. But in the end, if you're trying to sign free agents, it really won't even matter how talented the young guys are if you keep finishing in the bottom three year after year. The marquee free agents aren't giving the Lakers serious consideration unless they grow into a perennial playoff team. That's what the next step is supposed to be. Tanking only puts you another year behind in that regard, which makes it that much more difficult to catch up with teams like Utah and NO (and possibly Minnesota) who are already there.

confused why a lot of people suddenly agree with Byron and act like randle has to earn his spot on this roster when he's a walking double double. nance and ingram have work todo.

as for "tanking"; play anyone, any minutes and we're still bottom dwellers. Our "potential" is the type that needs time. Our most exciting prospect hasn't played a single game yet. That's how bad this team actually is - right now.

remember this list of things you will read/listen/watch/hear about. We're not tanking, we just dont stack up - YET.

- new young coach figuring it out
- everyone learning the new system
- young team learning
- ingram is still a rookie
- luke trying to learn his players to adjust the system (because we don't have the splash bros)... this system doesn't teach you shoot 3's better.
- small ball (without a knockdown shooter) versus normal lineup (with mosgov)
- lakers forgot that GSW actually play very good defense

and then of course "lakers looking to trade XX and XX for YY".

Biggest sub plot? ....Defense...

Can the Lakers play any? Just how good can it be? Will the players buy in and work hard together on that end of the floor?

Defense will separate them from 20 wins to 30 wins or more.
