How would the Lakers do, if we were an Olympic team?

With a couple weeks of training. I think our current Lakers roster could win gold in handball.

thanks a lot duncan. and lebron.

Should have took Kobe shaq kg Ray Allen and Vince on that 2004 team

Kobe ? Nah. I think he didn't participate due to the Team USA decision to omit him. It was the right call. The scandal surrounding hearings for the rape charge (mid-July) made him a pariah, essentially untouchable for the US team and Olympics that Summer. Until charges were dismissed in September, he was also rather preoccupied with getting his name cleared.

Think about how the 04 team did...

then think about the fact they had a young Carmelo and LeBron....

Now understand we'd likely do worse..at this point.

4 years from now? Likely different story.

Speaking of KOBE:

Kobe Bryant credited with reshaping culture of USA Basketball, helping lead team to 2008, 2012 gold medals

Quote:
USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo credits Bryant for playing “a very large part” in revamping the program’s culture after the 2004 squad settled for bronze at the Athens Games.

“His work ethic, approach and how he appreciates the game is infectious,” Team USA forward Kevin Durant said last month in Las Vegas. “He’s someone who loves to play so much. He’s competitive when he steps in between those lines. He wants perfection.”

Maybe a bronze, but honestly not sure I could even see that.

These international teams are used to playing together. Think about the combined National Team minutes for say Argentina with Ginobili, Nocioni, Scola, Delfino, etc. compared to our "dream team" who have like five minutes together.

USA team has almost dropped three games already, we would have lost those games with out a doubt, so i doubt we would even get bronze unless some lucky match-ups fell into our favor.

Right now? Hard to say because we haven't even seen this team play a game yet. I think they would struggle to finish in the top 4.

A year from now? Preseason plus a year of practice and an 82 game season would actually give us one major advantage over Team USA: Our Lakers team would be far more used to playing together, we would have a roster full of NBA players (unlike several of the international teams) and we would be really talented compared to the rest of the field (only USA would be more talented). We would have a bench full of NBA players instead of a bench with guys who haven't even shown they are good enough to be NBA scrubs.

And unlike Team USA we wouldn't just assume we would win every game so we would probably play with more heart.

Shaq and Kobe didn't even play in the 2000 Olympic team after winning 67 games and their first title. Wasn't Phil Jackson interested in coaching the team that year? I thought after Phil didn't become the coach that Shaq didn't want to play even after he had his best and only MVP season. Shaq was on the 96 team and wasn't happy with the amount of time he spent on the bench.

NBA teams have lost to some of the teams in other leagues before. I forgot about that. Didn't the Lakers lose to a team in Spain once after the Lakers had just won a championship months earlier? It was just an exhibition but I still thought it was embarrassing.
